I think he's one of those people that bought a 7800 GTX a few weeks ago, and is now stumped to see that a 7800 GT is within a few percent of the GTX and about $150 less. I'd be stuttering as well, that's not a very good return on investment.

Im sure Im not the only one who is thinking this. Is the 7800 GT just a 7800 GTX with 4 pipelines and a vertex shader disabled? If so, can they be enabled to make a 7800 GTX at a lower price? Anyone own one and who is ready to try?

My line of thinking exactly and we'll have to look RivaTuner's developer for that answer! The forum for RivaTuner is located at:

I've seen the 7800 GTX sell at eBay for under $450 but it sure would be nice to softmod the 7800 GT into a 7800 GTX and then eventually do a BIOS mod that did the same!!!

"i wont be buying this, im waiting for the R520 or 7800 ULTRA"

There wont be a 7800Ultra, Nvidia have changed there "top of the line" name to GTX, so the GTX is the ultra.

David.

I know there is some good information in your review Sander but what's with "beat them to a pulp"? Even if NVidia had really done something really spectacular I don't understand the competative intensity over video cards. :-)

Besides, ATI is sure to come out with thier new product and if it isn't ATI then some other company will do it and when that happens why all hell will break loose and the sky will surely fall, nope. There'll simply be another evolved product that is more adapted to it's environment than what came before it. Every once in a while you get a big leap up stream of the sequence and all hell breaks loose but the sky doesn't really fall and this isn't one of those times any way.

but hey, neat review. :-)
