I got Fable for PC yesterday and after i installed it, if i run the exe it errors, if i put it into comp mode for 2000 or 98 it will run, but i get constant memory dumps when new zones try to load, was curious if anyone else is having this problem, or have a solution.

I dont have any problems with it whatsoever. Perhaps your OS is corrupted thats why you get errors.

As pogi said ur os may be corrupted so I will first try to: Check Viruses, Spyware. it is pretty weird that it only runs in 98 2000 so maybe a virus has corrupted OS files and :(, I also have fable and no problems whatsoever. Gl

i reinstalled the game, did a system restore, and tried all settings, still an error in XP, still dumps to desktop in game under comp. mode in 2000 or 98, looked for patches or FAQs on this problem and nothing. the only thing i can think of is i had to install a patch for FFVII (i know its old)to make it XP comp. and it gave somthing about had to overwrite some windows files, but the system restore should have fixed that.

im at a loss, thinking if i want to play it im going to have to reformat, but i hate to cause all my other apps run fine, its just fable thats all foozed

Micheal,
It might be just a simple powersurge or overheating issues.

I am getting the same issue. Its really frustrating. When I move from one area to the next either the game crashes to the desktop or I enter a loop where the character just keeps fading out slowly repeatedly and the next area never loads :/

I noticed that the readme suggests updating Soundblaster drivers as it known to stop the game from starting(havent had a chance to do that yet). Also I noticed that the previous posters with problems also have the Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra graphics cards which I also have.

MSI K8N SLI Platinum
AMD 64 X2
Gainward GeForce 6800GT Ultra 256Mb

Same problem. start game and b4 it loads the opening menu it crashes....

Brought the game today....fresh installed...computer is 100% upto date...be stuffed if I'm reinstalling OS to get one game to work when everything else is working fine.

Runs if i start it in win2k compat mode.

gonna play for a bit and see if I get other errors.

Basicaly, i got Fable: Lost chapters and installed it and everything fine. And i can start it up etc fine too. And then, i can play it for a bit fine, but after about 30 seconds of playing the game sort of freezes, but not completely because if i press window (minimise it) and then maximise it again, i can play it again ok, but then the same happens not too long after. So really, i could play it and just minimise it and maximise it every few seconds, but obviously it would gte well annoying.
Its just strange coz ive got all the recommended spec, ive got a ATI radeon 9200 so it should work fine. If anyone knows what the problem is that would be great

Hi also have a smilar problem to bill. The game loads fine and as your walking around the village at the start i notice some polygon stretch happening in the background and it ocasionally flashes, after 2 mins or so the game just freezes up altogether but windows key doesnt even shut to desktop , have to do a manualy shut down of PC . Computers system spec is fine ive got the GeForce 6600 GT , its driving me nuts, I notice that the 6000 series isnt lsited on the supported graphics cards list but i assume thats to do with what was avaliable when the game was tested

hey i just got fable from a friend as his computer died, but i didn't know you needed XP to use it. As i have no real want for XP i was wondering if there was anything i could download to make it possible to play fable on 98? I would appreciate any help on this matter

I am having the same problem, the game quits during startup with standard error dialog box.

I found another blog which said right-clicking on the fable startup icon and then going to properties and disabling themes under compatibility would work. I did that, and it did get a little further into loading before quiting back to the dialog box.

Then I saw that soundblaster drivers might be the issue. So I tried updating those, still no help.

Then I disabled my sound card "Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX" and bingo. The game is working, with no sound!!

I then tried using my integrated sound card in the motherboard to get the game to work with sound. Nope! Still crashing just like before. I even went and fiddled with the accelaration settings in Direct X. Soo.....I'm stumped. I guess I have to reinstall the whole OS? I hate that! Oh well...Any ideas? If not I guess that's what I'll be doing...certainly not going to play with no sound.

Hope this will get some others up and running though.
