I'm having the same problems as Bill (same card to), I've found lowering the res/details prolongs the crash, stopping the Vti recovery program just makes the pc go f**king mental when it errors.
As for the minimise->maximize approach that only works twice and then kiss your pc goodbye.
I'm now off to download a desktop saver as im sick of all my icons getting squished into a corner everytime fable throws a wobbly >_<

As for the error I reacon a patch will be on route and the game was rushed {big surprise}. Too many people are having problems and it seems the game only runs smoothly on ridiculously new graphics cards {eg. latest ge force}

"We are sorry, but we have detected that the game did not exit correctly. We recommend starting the game in safe mode. Safe mode may disable some advanced features of the game, but may allow you to play the game."

I started playing this game two months ago. It started out slow becaming interesting in the middle and slow again. My character is walking on the path of light...he has the halo and butterflies effect going on but maybe being good is boring....now I got to steal something or play some chicken-kickin'
