Thanks, wow that's excellent info. I wasn't sure what that tab was for and if I should pull back or up on the HDD. Got it now though.

hi guys.

really hope someone can help me here,
basically i have a very old satallite pro 450 laptop, and the problem i have with it is the actuall on switch has broke from its motherboard, now some kind online repair shop has sent me a replacement one, and i would like bash at it myself, as its only going to be a matter of soldering 2 small bits.

i only want it to let my very young daughter use it, and with it being so old shop repair isnt really an option for me as i just cant see the justification of the kind of prices thrown about for lappy repairs.

now i have had 1 go at getitng in to it, had all thinsg basically out, keybord,cd ddrive, battery, hardrive, but i hit a problem that quite simply i can not get any further, iam obvioulsy trying to get to the motherboard itself,so i can attach the new switch i have.

and i am only having a go as my local laptop shop di have a look at it for me for free, and did say they had the thing boot when power was entered directly, (which i knew it was a working model ,just the switch problem).

so guys any help here would be greatly apricited, any links to a strip down, as i say its not a big problem if i cant , just also some experiance for me, as iam very able to fit/repair normal pc's from scratch, just that lappys are way over my head.

thanks in advance for any help here.

Cj. Just the guy I want to talk to. I have a Toshiba 4015CDS. The screen is kind of messed up. It fades to white around the edges. I like it though. I run XP Pro on it. I also have a Toshiba 465CDX which is a real 166MHz dinosaur with 98SE, but with a decent screen still. Do you know if I can swap the screens on those? And can I use the instructions on your site as a generic guide? Or are there specific things I need to know?

I'm looking for information on a Sony Vaio PCG-GRZ630. The machine is running hot and I would like to clean it out. A manual or disassembly instuctions would be most helpful.

Thanks,

David

Can you disassemble and repair the AC port on a Toshiba Tecra 550 cdt. A corner strike cracked the case and snapped the black cover thing off the AC connector pin.
