My computer crashed, I restarted it and as soon as BIOS, mother board screen, verifying DMI, and all that junk went by and it would normally go to the loading windows screen, it jsut went black and stayed black. I restarted again, and got past windows, all ym icons loaded etc etc, but as soon as i moved my mouse a bit it froze up again. I had to leave for school(where im posting this from) so i turned it off, and told my self id go to the geek squad for it after school. Is there anything i can do to solve it myself without risking anything?

Some motherboards you have to move a pin some you dont depends on your mobo.....

If it requires the the pin to be moved pull the battery and move the pin, otherwise just pull the battery with the PSU unplugged and then wait a moment an then put the battery back an plug it in again.
you will have to reset your clock an boot sequence etc.

hmm corrupt file's that will do it every time.Do you have the install CD to do a reformat if you have to?What version of windows do you have? With XP you can do a system restore and that works alot of the time.

Yes, I have the cd, and it started acting up again. Now i get the blah blah start in safe mode, safe networking mode, normally blah blah option, if you dont choose windows will begin in 30 seconds. I cant select any of em and once it hits the 30second timer theres a long pause and it started. Now im runnin ad aware again.

Don't bother playing around with Windows, just format and start all over.. a fresh install almost always fixes the problem.

Before you do a full format I suggest opening up the case and looking around inside. Check and make sure that all the fans, especially that on the processor is running smoothly. If you have a way to blow air and clean up any accumulated dust inside do that, though be carefull when using compressed air, make sure its not too close to the components.
Make sure all the cards/connections are seating in well.

Next thing to check would be the RAM, get the memory testing utility from memtest86 and use it to test the ram and see if it brings up any errors.

If you still get the problem then it may be time to full format and reinstall, however be warned that it will delete all your existing data so backup your important data.

To Full format, put in your WinXP(assuming you're using XP) and start the computer(Make sure the computer is set to start from CD, if not set it so in the BIOS), follow the onscreen instrustions after that and when it asks for a format, choose the full format(not quick format) and it will format and install windows.

I took it to bestbuy, and the guy suggested switching the IDE port I was using. I did that and it's gotten better but it still acts up... he said I might need to replace my mother board..

On a another note he looked up hardware errors in the past few days with some windows option.. how do i get to this so i can see them for myslef?
