I have 42$/month Comcast Cable with 5MB/s down, 384KB/s up, although Comcast tech support has tested me before and gotten up to 8MB/sec. The fastest download rate I ever saw was about 2MB/s on Mozilla.

I also have the 3M/bits and pay £37.99. That is with the underground cabled streets, using the Samsung set top box....this relpaced the original Pace STB which was not edequate to access the present higher speeds and those yet to come.
Incidently Pace which was originally in Yorkshire England, is now doing well the USA.)
The good news is that those with existing 3M/bits will shortly be upgraded to 10M/bits at the same price.
This does not apply to those with the lower speeds however.
I find NTL cable to be quite good,(just be careful with some support so called technicians, some of which are very good, but others seem to be reading from a FAQ prompter, or VDU)
NTL cable is of course far superior to the BT dial up, which in some areas suffer from the old copper corrroded telegraph wires...and depend on being within a certain distance from the exchange link server.
As you will no doubt know, NTL have taken over Telewest, and according to reports on the Net and BBC, the future of thier two joint system together will enhance the future of Broadband here in the UK.
The only thing I am waiting for is to see the space they allow on the new 10M/bits, and if there are is any capping.in the fine print (The terms and conditions apply statements) which we are all familiar with in all ISP's regardless of whether it is Cable or Dial up. Incidently NTL now recommend all users not to use USB modems, and recommend only Ethernet....Wireless can of course be used with the dual-type Routers.
Not a bad line. In my county, we have no cable Internet. The fastest Internet avaliable is either DSL or very expensive fiber optics or relay (my college uses a 70 GB line between it and Modesto College for Internet bandwidth!). I have a 2.5 MB/700 KB/ps line and it's probably one of the fastest ones in the county.
Yeah i know its expensive for a 1meg line but thats all i can get here in the middle of nowhere, its better than dialup at least. And yeah $42.95 is way too much for a 1meg line, but yeah its my location.
I sympathise with you for what you pay.
42.95 USD United States Dollars = 24.9256 GBP United Kingdom Pound..
One thing many people forget in the UK is that you live in an unbelievably very large country, and there are many outlandish areas where communications cost far mor than here .We are lucky to live in a relatively small country, close to Europe and Scandanavia, and the new 10M/bits will help a lot, although the 3m/bits I have at the moment is reasonably adequate. .
I'm paying $0.00 for a 2Mbit connection that some else nearby is paying for (directional wireless antenna and an unsecured wireless network).
Only down side is that when it rains hard the signal gets spotty.

I've got 3mb down/512kb up for $25 a month. Not too bad.
We were paying $28 or so for 1.5/384, but then they changed their prices by quite a bit.

Tell me about it Ryan a buddy of mine noticed his neighbours "stealing" his internet through his wireless router, he let them and has been logging their mac addresses and their access times and has himself gone on a download/sharing spree of music/movies, his reasoning, if he gets sued by the copyright guys, he'll just just show them the logs that his neighbours have been using his internet and its not him but them He's a tough one
