I've been putting up with windows media player for a long time. I always seem to have problems with it, but able to fix them. But now I have a problem with it which i can't seem to fix. When I try to stream is tries to connect and eventually stop responding. I know its WMP becuase my real player and qt player work fine, but I don't like those players either.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling/updating and restoring my system to an earlier time. Spyware/adware/virus check. Everything.

I like WMP becuase it's fast playing and loading. Are there any other good players out there?!?

thanks.

I like the DivX player but I have VLC Player also that seems to play nearly everything and I use PowerDVD for DVDs, I like WMP but it seems to lack any good codec support.

I have powerdvd, but never used it. Will it support video streaming from the internet?

I agree with other posts above that PowerDVD is best fo DVDs. for audio and AVIs winamp is my pick.
http://www.winamp.com
Winamp is stable, small footprint, and can play just about any format you chuck at it. I tried iTunes but it's just bloatware, unless you want their downloads, I don't. My taste runs more to Jazz/Blues/Indie for which Emusic.com is better, and no DRM either).

I use everything _but_ Windows Media Player, and will only use WMP when it is absolutely necessary.

Video:
Quicktime
Intervideo WinDVD
Cybermedia PowerDVD
DivX
XviD

Audio:
iTunes
WinAmp

I categorically refuse that the .WMA format exists. :)

I gurantee, you'll ditch the MicroSoft WindowsXP, if there's something called 'Lindows' from MacroHard comes out ;)

VLC plays files that windows doesnt even know what the heck to do with. Like VOB files (i think thats what its called). Have been using WMP 10 lately just because it was thier when i installed windows, and didnt bother to install VLC or anything else, cause WMP plays stuff fine too. I dont like it for DVDs tho.

For Audio i use iTunes only because i have an iPod (3rd Generation)

My favorite media player by far. Tons of options, very small video border, good visualizations, tons and TONS of skins... Great media library agent... the list goes on and on.
