>> Re: Optical mouse wont turn off after shutdown
Thanks Mat Nairb, for the quick reply, but when I checked around my mobo, I seem not able to find the jumper for the PS2 around the mobo.

It is normal not to have the jumper nowaday, my mobo is Gigabyte 81848 P-G and I also found out that even when my optical mouse is plugged into all the USB ports, it also lighted up although the PC is shut down, so does it mean the same problem with the jumper or otherwise.

Thanks for any help.

Similar problem and also can't fix thru the bios.

Asus mobo

Wireless mouse is usb and shuts off when comp is off, but keyboard using ps/2 stays on.

Along with a green led on mobo and my lan cable light.

If you can't shut it down through the BIOS, then shut it off with the motherboard. Also, there is a 5v power cable that is used for that wake on mouse. If you unplug it, that will also fix the problem. I don't have mine plugged up, so I'm guessing that you don't need it for anything other than that?

the light will stay on i think cause when u shut down pc there is still a small amount of power still being used by m/b, this is required if you want to to power it on thru network by another pc (could be anywhere in the world)and use it remotley ,in the bios there may be the the option power on /lan that allows you to do this.I get rid of mouse light by switching the power supply of at the back.

Certain Motherboards keep power to the USB ports, sort of like the soft off feature of the ATX Motherboards/powersupplies

My mouse light stays on when the PC is in SLEEP mode (not sure if it is the same as hibernation).
Anyway, can it be the Power Management and/or Sleep State settings in the BIOS?
The Sleep State setting: can be changed to S1 or S3. Try changing this and see if it works.

I am checking my Awards BIOS...check this out;

There is a setting in Power Management Setup. "S3 wake up by PS2/Keyboard, S3 wake up by PS2/Mouse" Enable or Disable....it allows the mouse to wake up the system from sleep mode.

That's to bad Desmond. On my Asus A8V Deluxe mobo, I have it so the +5VSB is enabled via a jumper on my motherboard. This keeps the light on my mouse on. In my BIOS, I have Power on by PS/2 Keyboard enabled. The Power on by PS/2 Mouse is disabled. With these two settings, I can hit any key on my keyboard and turn on my computer. If I move my mouse, it will not turn on. Originally I did have the mouse enabled and keyboard disabled but I kept turning my PC on whenever I moved my mouse slightly. My computer desk is also my work desk. As for USB, the +5V is enabled on the mobo on all my USB ports, so if I did have a USB optical mouse plugged in, the light would be off.

Thanks for all the replies guy.

I think my mobo dont offer that turn off functions, so I guess got to live with the mouse lighted when shut down and even with the USB ports alive.

Let me know if anyone has a better solution, thanks.

Anybody who has a wireless mouse, the light won't turn off when your PC does, since obviously it's not powered by the USB/PS2 port, but by batteries.

My logitech mouse it like that too. Its lost the connection with the reciever when the pc is off, so it seaches.

Remove the batteries!

The ps/2 optical mouse and keyboard SHOULD turn OFF. I just came off an old Dell running win98 and these 2 peripherals always shut off with the PC! However I'm building a from scratch system, and even b4 OS is installed I can't shut down power to KB/Mouse (both from old system: PS2).

somehting IS wrong if they stay on! should NOT happen. Some mfr offering RMA status for this "Problem"! Anyone properly pursued a FIX?

Intuitively seems like a ACPI PME issue and power settings in bios no?

registered just to respond.

finally found it!!!! i thought for sure it was a bios thing but nope....
i'm using windows 10 on a asus m4a79xtd evo.

power options
choose what the power buttons do
turn off fast startup
shut down - the usb's should not be powered when it's off now.

for those not that familiar with windows 10:

right click on the start button and choose "power options"
in the upper left click on "choose what the power buttons do"
at the top click "change settings that are currently unavailable"
unclick "turn on fast startup"

then shut it down and watch all the lights go out.
