In the next few days I will be doing a comprehensive comparison on the X1800XT 512 .

We will be looking at Synthetic benchmarks and In game performance .

Synthetic benchmarks will be done on default free test. X1800XT 512 stock air cooling Core 730 Mhz Memory 1710 Mhz.

In game performance will be done with max Eye candy on and compared to 2 7800 GT OC 492 1.22 in SLI.

Lets keep this thread clean and lets keep an open mind.

here is a small taste to get your lips wet.

ok now we take a look at fear.

first we start with quality.

setings used are max everything in game with vsync 1280x768 widescreen.

drivers set to the following.

temporal aa set to 6x

Adaptive aa set to quality

Af set to high quality AF 16x

AI set to advanced

mipmap set to quality

overview 7800 GT oc compared to X1800Xt 512 fear quality

as you can see Color and crispness is better in ATI then nvidia. But I see more jaged lines in ATI. Reason ?

Nvidia 7800 class offer single gpu 8xaa with 4x invis aa and 4x gamma aa.

FPS 2 7800 GT OC 492 1.22 in SLI Fear 32 FPS low 45 FPS average 66 FPS high with all eye candy on. 81.95 drivers .

FPS X1800XT 512 690 core 1600 Mhz memory single GPU with max settings everything. Eye candy maxed 16 FPS low 28 FPS average 59 FPS high.

Overall. ATI loose this one hands down no questions asked when compared 2 2 7800 GT OC in SLI.

Not even quality was as nice. if your wondering I'm using Cat 5.11,s

Wow you mean you acctually did buy a X1800XT, for some reason i didnt believe you at first, but no doubts now. You give me more reason not to buy a ATI card. And i use to be a ATI fanboy back in the day, till i bought a 6800 cause it offered more price/performance then ATI's cards at the time (9800PRO, etc.)

as we can see fraps paints a pic like i exspected.

1X1800XT 512 offers same in game FPS with all maxed as 2 7800 GT OC

Dead match to what i got before with 7800 Gt OC in SLI

http://tinypic.com/igyute.jpg

none of them have the power to run full eye candy and still get 60 FPS in Fear.

2 7800 GTX 512 maby.

firstly your comparng a single card to 2 cards which just is biased towards the nvidia system. what you should do is compare a single ati to a single nvidia. that is whats known as a fair test.
secondly if you must use sli, compare that to crossfire
thirdly, is it a direct comparason? as in using the same hardware/software for both tests?
fourthly you are comparng an overclocked version of the 7800gt to the x1800xt, surly for a fair test you should reset the 7800gt to default clocks, or overclock the ati by the same percentage.
finally isnt the x1800xt the top of the line ati hardware? shouldnt that be cmpared to the top of the line nvidia hardware such as the gts? or am i out of date when it comes to the model numbers?

Error 34:
There was no error

Its fair because 2 7800GTs can be had for $600 USD total, and a X1800XT 512 is almost $600 USD itself sometimes a little less.

It's not too biased, but a little. You will need to spend probably about $100 more for the GT SLI system due to mobo, PSU, and a little extra on the cards.

Hey PCGEEK... Can I buy the X1800XT from you? ;)

Jake 1 card or 2 cards will not change over all quality. FPS Some but as we know 99% of games use single GPU over duel better.

Ok guys now we move to Half life 2

Got to say i had hoped for more out of the ATI here.

http://tinypic.com/igz4aa.jpg

http://tinypic.com/igz4ft.jpg

http://tinypic.com/igzos9.jpg

http://tinypic.com/igzoxx.jpg

as you can see shes 60 FPS rock solid everything maxed in game and drivers. This is about 40 FPS less then 2 7800 GT in SLI.

Also once again ATI lost hands down in quality. Color and texture is better then nvidia but ATI lack of AA shows far to much jagged lines.

I think i see a pattern developing here. ATI has lied to every one about its better image quality. I my self am extremely disappointed.

Also guys this is a new X1800XT 512 bought today.

Now you bought another X1800XT again?

In the past few years, you have owned more graphics cards then i have owned in my life, lol. this year you had:
the 6800GT
then 2 6600GTs in SLI
then 2 6800GTs in SLI
then 2 BFG 7800GTs in SLI
then a X1800XT 512
then 2 BFG 7800GTs A-2s in SLI
now another X1800XT 512

holy crap.

Anyone disagreeing on fair comparison:

Not only does the X1800XT have 512mb ram, thus making it a decent comparison to 2 7800GT which runs at 256mb each, which added together makes 512mb (no duh). And the prices match up.

PCGEEK:
Can you test Quake 4, FarCry, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, and Half-Life 2: Lost Cost (High Dynamic Range)?

If you are wondering about Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source, they are the orginal game but remade with the HL2 Engine and with the equivelant graphics.

To me its all about cost, as long is the cost is similar then its a fair comparison.

Your gonna need a mega PSU for a X1800XT 512 just as much as for a 2x 7800GT.
And SLI moboards can be had for as little as $100.

"none of them have the power to run full eye candy and still get 60 FPS in Fear.

2 7800 GTX 512 maby."

F.E.A.R. ran everything max ( Ingame settings and drivers maxed ) and got around 170FPS high, 45FPS min, 70FPS average( In Sli ). Thing is, after playing for about 5mins my whole rig just shuts off. The two cards run fine by themselves in each slot, but once I put them in Sli it does this. This only happens when I play games. :x
But still, one card alone can play F.E.A.R. maxed out. Although the test settings options says I get a low frame rate, I was playing without any lag or stutters ( No lag in the middle of a gun fight with 6-7 NPCs ). Think it is the motherboard because even my 4800 is getting low scores ( compared to those who have a 4800 @ stock on TRP, they get around 27k while I get around 17k to 19k ). Anyone know the problem? :P
