Allright folks, I've got the new Asus V9950 which has GeForce FX5900 chipset and it is working perfectly without problems... without anything (overclocking) it scored 5210 3Dmarks in 3DMark03. Farewell to ATI forever ! good luck to you all ! No more messages for this forum. See ya !

Bye.

To all those with problems, Dont Just blame the Vid card company, blame the motherboard manufacturer, for the crappy chips theyve been putting in, Deal is People have tried an nvidia 8x with this board and it would crash also, it also does it with a ASUS P4S8X with the SIS 648 chipset

Kuman,

No probs running Radeon 9700 pro with ASUS P4P800 deluxe. It works perfectly, no crashes for a month now with Fastwrites and 8x on.

is that board running I865P chipset?, OH for all others the ASUS P4G8X, P4S8X,P4S8X-X, have problems with ALL AGP 8X video cards, it is because of the Crappy Chipsets, SIS is a Budget Chipset Maker, and The chipset on the P4G8X was a failed attempt at a chipset, is it correct that was the First Intel Chipset to Include AGP 8X capability?, Recommendation is not buy those boards, get the P4P800 as Recommended by Carlos. Second Gen boards usually have major advantage over 1st gens, but wait at end of this year we will be seeing 64Bit Systems, I hope that this existing hardware is compatable with the 64Bit Processors and Operating Systems. But i dont think Motherboards will be, Oh and I Think the Last P4 Processor will be at 4.0-4.8GHZ before they make change to the P5.

I am using the P4G8X with the 9800 pro, and it works perfect. No crashes at all. And around 10% better graphics. Recommended highly. The only let down is the motherboard, but only when running with the 9700pro. - lower memory bandwidth, only has ich4. You would be better off with the p4c800.

No Suggestions about the Vid BIOS, never want to mess with that, major consequence if cant get an update installed, Just a bad combination, any suggestions on a stable AMD based Board for the Radeon 9700 Pro/9800 Pro? Good Suggestion for Intel Based would be the Asus P4P800 Deluxe (i865PE) Carlos has tried that board and says it works great with this vid card

Hi all,

I've been reading this forum since the day it started. I've had all the problems listed throughout these 30 pages of posts on the issue.

For those that are still checking this forum for info, here's my 20 cents worth for ya.

For me, turning Fast Writes off, while still having X8 AGP set, solved my inital problem. Updated Asus BIOS and ATI drivers and control panel did do something but didn't quite solve it.

I took advice from other people in the computer industry and confirmed it by reading what people were saying on here.

I have just completely resolved my issue between the Radeon card and the P4G8X.... Get a new motherboard (if you can). I just bought an Asus P4C800 (i875P chip set) and with Fast writes and X8 AGP on (and defaulf settings) it all works 100% perfectly. Have had the system running flat out 24/7 for the past 5 days straight and not one single issue at all. It was kind of a risk to lash out and by another one but thought it was worth the try. So if you are still having problems, by an Asus P4C800.

Fortunately, I was able to use the P4G8X in another new machine and married it up with a different video card (not a Radeon) and it works fine.

To all that have contributed to this forum you have proven to be a big (no, a massive) help to me in trying to find out how to fix the problem. My heart felt thanks to everyones input - I was hanging on your every word.

Take care and my best wishes to you all.

Paul

I followed the advice given by Ryan a few posts back, from Asus, and bumped the AGP bus speed up one notch from 66 to 67Mhz. Didn't change anything else, left the fast write on, and USWC on. That was three days ago, so far no crashes, which is very unual. I typically had a crash two or three times a day before, and once I think it crashed 6 or 7 time in one day. Thanks, think I'm becoming sane again!?! We'll see if my sanity continues, keep you posted.

Applying the solution mentioned by someone earlier solved the lockups during 3D gaming too. I enabled USWC in the BIOS (version 1006), disabled Fast Writes in Smartguard (although my PC still runs with AGP 8X), and i increased the AGP frequency to 67.26/33.63 MHz in the BIOS (what seems to be the most helpfull hint :-). The graphics driver installed is the latest Catalyst 3.6. I left the AGP voltage in the BIOS in its default state. I was able to play Tron 2.0 for more than 90 minutes now without a single lockup (without these changes i was used to "play" the game for at most 5 minutes).

Yahoo Man,

Yes you can turn off Fastwrites in 3.7.
I had the same problem as well with all the different Catalyst versions with the Smartgart tag not appearing.
Try uninstalling the ATI Controll panel first through add/remove programs then reboot and install 3.7
If not, I uninstalled both the control panel and display drivers, rebooted and installed 3.7.
If all else fails, you can download a program called RivaTuner and turn off FW through that. That works fine.

Here's a question, Smartgart shows I am running in 8X mode with fastwrites off but when I run any of the benchmarks (pcmark, 3dmark etc.) and look in the system info they show that my AGP is set to 4X...what's up with that?

Check Your Bios for the AGP Mode it will either show up as AGP 8x or AGP 3.0 if its not 3.0 or 8x try to change it from what ever it is to 8x or 3.0

i have a 9800 pro and im having problems with smartgart (fast write) and an option in dxdiag called 'agp texture acceleration'...though they may not be related to one another..
in smartgart i cannot turn on fast write..no matter what, i hit on, restart, check settings, and its still off, agp 8x works though
in dxdiag in the display tab in agp texture acceleration mine says 'not available' and hell with a 9800 pro you'd think that it'd be available..? anyway i try turning on anti aliasing and it works , but when i turn on antistropic filtering..the textures don't look ANY sharper, even @ 16x..and i have good vision :-/ .. so i don't know what to do..i think the antistropic filtering and agp texture acceleration problem are related to each other but i simply don't know how to fix it...any help appreciaited..i'd also understand if i get no replies as this is going a little off topic

Easy Option is to Reformat system, after backing up Files, and writing down websites where u got some programs, oh maybe u should download the newest BIOS out but 1005 is good too.

This is only for the Advanced user, if ur afraid of doing it or dont know how to upgrade the BIOS or Reformat the harddrive take it to a friend that knows about that or take it to a PC repair shop and they will do it.

No matter what I try I am still having the infinite loop issues with the Radeon 9800. Here is my system specs:

Asus A7N8X-Deluxe (BIOS NEW VERSION)
AMD Athlon XP 2700+
1GB PC3200 DDR (Set dual channel)
460W Enermax PS
ATI Radeon 9800 (Omega Drivers)

This is what I have tried.

-Regular ATI Drivers
-Disabled FastWrite
-Increased AGP voltage from 1.5V to 1.6V
-Underclocked system FSB
-Underclocked processor
-Tried windows 2000 and windows xp. (All service packs and updates)
-Checked MoBo and CPU temps
-Tried both ASUS A7V8X and A7N8X
-Disabled FSB Spectrum

While running Windows 2k I just get 2 pc speaker beeps and then the system freezes, no blue screens no error messages.

While running Windows XP, I get a "Windows has covered from a device driver error. The device atidiag...," accompanied by an Infinie loop problem in the error log. Anyone have any more ideas? If not, does anyone know of any motherboards that this Ininite Loop bug doest effect? I would like a really good nForce 2 mobo. I checked toms but Im not sure which of those suffer from the infinite loop problem.

Also, the AC in my building is kind of sketchy. Everything runs off of one circuit which is a 30ohm fuse. I do get alot of brown outs. The 460W powersupply does suckup a ton of power, do you think this may be the issue? But it doenst happen at all unless I have the Video Drivers installed for the 9800.

Also, the Asus probe shows a different Processor Temp than the BIOS Hardware monitor. THe BIOS hardware monitor also is jumpy, sometimes it jumps from 20C to 51C. Now it is on 51C, Probe never really goes above 41. Who do I trust?

BUY a different Motherboard from a Different Manufacturer, oh u should create a New Forum for the Combination of the AMD board and the Radeon 9800 because this one only deals with the Intel Board.
