Joe, please, one more of think... ;)
I found out that the CD driver is damaged my CD's. They look dirty after reading, with small dirty or damages round spots 2-3 mm big. Thanks...:)

Hana,

The bad cable may be the cause for the speaker noise as well as the blue screen. The blue screen may also be due to the memory slots going bad.

If a new cable does not solve your noise problem then you may have damage to the amplifier chip or the sound chip on the motherboard.

I don't thik the LCD backlight is causing these conditions.

Thank you Joe;) I try to replace the cable with new one. Hope it should be the trouble because before it was running without trouble (just this noise some time..).

What do you think about this dark strip from bottom part of display to the top? It is 2 mm sick and look as dark blue color on this nice blue "sky" color ;) of display?

We all need to send Sony a message.

I have started a petition regarding this issue.

http://www.petitiononline.com/snapper/petition.html

Sign it and I will see about getting this issue to the fore front of Sony's need to address list. I also intend to take this issue to the media as it looks like it's about to give Sony a big black eye.

Thanks for your support and hopefully we can get this issue the light it deserves and Sony off their butt.

Chris,

Do all the lights (power, both batt) come on and stay on? You may still have a RAM slot problem, it's just degraded to this point.

Joe, the first 3 lights come on, but not the laptop one, also there are NO FANS or anything, and before, no matter what the fans came on at least for a second, and the computer could be switched off by holding in the power button a few seconds.

also, i am concerned because removing all ram had the exact same result, indicating the problem is a bit further up the line, possibly the CPU, but after checking it i don't see any damage.

Anyway, I'm most likely going to be sending it to you joe, do you have any 16" PCG-GRX500P compatible screens in the shop, it has a large crack, but 80% is still visible, and I fear shipping will make it unviewable.

Chris,

try hitting the reset button (pinhole on bottom near RAM access door) that should put you back and square one.

We don't deal in screen replacements.

Here's a little something to think about:

My Sony also has one defective ram socket (PCG-GRX416G) and I wanted to install 2x512 meg modules.
Since it would only recognize one of them, I went out and bought a 1GB module.
I was not sure if this would work, but anyhow - now I have 1gig of RAM and that works perfectly!!

I gave yesterday my PCG GRX316SP in workshop (Getronics, Prague) and I will let you know result what they will find out...

Joe, can I give link to this forum for them? I think a lot of great suggestions here and it can help them with fixing not only my notebook. Thank you...

Hana

Joe, I really need my computer fixed before next school year, and I think you're the one to do it.

Even for you to just look at the problem, how much cash should I send? I'm bordering on desperate.

Looks like so far I have solve this problem, while still having two memory cards on. Works
fine no problem at all. rebooting without a problem. All what I did, I
applied a 3mm plastic washer a top of the memory cards, and closed that RAM
cover, it applied a presure on materboard and now all is working fine, and
even more, suprisingly, the computer is cold on the top, and slightly warm
on the bottom, haha I gues I should patent this one ;)

Murphy's Law: If anything CAN happen, it WILL.

1. Hard drives are electromechanical devices. They eventually fail. All of them.

2. Laptop computers can be lost, stolen, or dropped.

3. If you have that much work that isn't backed up, you are living on borrowed time.

4. Take out the hard drive and copy the files to another computer using an IDE adapter.

5. Good luck.

Hana,

Yes, I don't see why you can't give them a link to this website, I don't own it. :)

Colin,

We're still working on getting our equipment to interface with the Z1 boards. This is not an easy task, there are engineers involved in different countries and this takes time and most of the time it's out of my hands. If you send your Z1 in to us, it #1 it may sit here for a while #2 it may return not repaired.

Hana,

"What do you think about this dark strip from bottom part of display to the top? It is 2 mm sick and look as dark blue color on this nice blue "sky" color of display? "

---> That is more than likely a problem within the LCD itself..
