I have an asus a8n-sli mobo with a 3200+ winchester cpu.
I also have Corsair pc3200. 1 gb (2x512)

The CPU is originally clocked at 2.0 and using the bios i can automatically oc at different percentage levels
3%, 5%, 8%, 10%. I can set it at 10% (220x10, I'm guessing) leaving me at 2.2. Temps are great 30c at idle
Runs smooth! If i set it to manual no matter what I do I can't get over 2.25 without some type of lockup or freezing at windows boot, even with temps aprox the same.
I don't seem to have any htt or fsb options like some of you guy's have. Maybe this mobo isn't meant for ocing? I have cpu freq, pci express clock, ddr voltage, cpu multiplier, cpu voltage.

I have tried changing my ram timings.(org 2-3-3-6, currently set at 2-3-2-6 1t)
Tried changing my ram speeds to 333 and 266 etc, and uping my timings. I followed examples from you guys within all these posts.

I need some advice or for someone to please just tell me what to do as far as Ocing with this mobo or even if its possible. Possibly someone with this mobo that knows what options are avail.

I've read these forums over and over and i just can't get it to oc.
maybe I'm just retarded. :)

thanks

If those are the only options you have, set the pci-e clock manually to 100mhz. Then manually raise the cpu freq to the point where you start to experience instability, then raise the cpu voltage in single steps, rebooting each time until stability is rock solid. Don't raise the total voltage by more than 0.1v unless you're feeling particularly brave. Keep an eye on temps and post back results.

you need to use a RAM divider. under CPU Options where the memory timings are (you'll want to relax those a bit btw) you'll see your memory speed set a 400mhz. try 333mhz.

under Jumperless settings set your cpu up around 240 with a 10 multiplier. if it's stable, try 245 and so on.

Shouldn't need to use a ram divider at the speeds he is currently going for-it's only a 10% oc at present.

I've tried that with the pci-e clock @ 100. That is my lowest option.

heres my settings

cpu freq: starts at 200
pci express clock: 100mhz
ddr voltage: auto (2.7v)
cpu multipler: highest is 10
cpu voltage: starts at .800 and 1.550 highest
pci clock sync: 33.33mhz (options to auto, to cpu, 33.33)

>> Re: a8n-sli overclocking tips. Someone with this mobo pls help.
Yes, I've tried just about every combination.

I've spent the last hour or so trying everything again.

With my ram at 400mhz I seem to run stable at 2.25 (225x10) with cpu voltage at AUTO. CPU-z detects the voltage at 1.472. I have moved the cpu freq up one by one. I can get to 229 with no problems. cpu temp 35c

Once I get to 2.3 (230x10) I lock up at bootup. I have to move my ram down to 333mhz. And I seem to run stable until i start loading any apps besides basic xp programs. This is with cpu voltage at auto and manual settings at 1.475, 1.4875, 1.5. Not sure if i want to go higher. CPU-z see cpu voltage at 1.472 and 1.488 (changes back in forth) Cpu temp is at 36c

When I go any higher from 2.31 to 2.4 and I lock up at bootscreen. I've tried ram at 333 and 266.
I've adjusted my cpu voltage manually from 1.475, 1.4875, 1.5. And still lockup at boot screen.

as far is benchmark there is hardly any difference between 2.2ghz and 2.25ghz. Only difference is about 2c temp on cpu.

If you're at 225 x 10 then your ram is running at 450 mhz, not 400. If you're stable there then it's time to use the ram divider Jared mentioned.

i thoght i'd did that. changing the ram to 333 or 266. isn't that what he was talking about?

It didn't seem to do any good even with the ram at 266.

Actually I've been running pretty good for the last couple hours at 229x10 and ram at 200.

now i have my cpu voltage at 1.5 is that ok for my cpu? (as long as temps are good right?)
37c cpu
29c mb

heres the problem. Even though i'm stable, i've seem to lost alot of performance.
3d05 went down over 1200 pts
aquamark went from 78,000 to 61,000

One of us is confused. If you're at 229 x 10, then your ram is at 229, not 200.

I'm probably the one confused.

Under my dram configuration I can change the memory clock. This is where I've been changing
it from 400mhz, 333mhz, and 266mhz, and 200.

Under this option i can also change my timings.

here's what mine's set at:

Under RAM settings:
Timings at 2.5-3-3-6 (mine locks at anything tighter than this)
Bump RAM down to 333 mhz (don't go any lower)
HTT at 4x

Under jumperless:
10x multi @ 265
pci 105 mhz (i've heard this makes no difference)
ram volt 2.8
cpu volt 1.4375
pci sync 33.33

hope this helps...

Works like a champ!! :)

I'm at 2.4 now and cpu temp is 34c idle.

My problem was either the actual ram voltage or the timings. I was using 2-3-3-6.
I changed that to 2.5-3-3-6 but I did that before. The only difference was ram volt.

Thanks jared B. Thats all i wanted was someone with the same mobo to point out some settings.
Thanks Chris McNally also for all your help!!

Now as long as i'm stable and temps seem good thats I'll i reallly need to worry about?

I'm kinda new to this OC'ing game and so far I've gotten my a8n-sli with a a64 3200+ venice up to 2.55GHz.

The thing that I'm wondering about is at 2.55 my CPU voltage is now at about 1.4375,is that going to be enough power for everything to run right?

Changes I made
-RAM 2.5-3-3-6 @ 333MHz (1gig of kingston ddr sdram 2x512)
-CPU 255x10@1.4375 volt
-HTT-4x
-pci express-105MHz
-RAM voltage-2.8
-PCI synch-33.33

My temps are about 30 celcius at idle and at load I've yet to break 50. Prolly about 45-46 celcius. I just wanna know if I should increase my voltage on my CPU,I also might try to get to 2.65 after about a week at this setting for testing. Maybe then for sure I should increase it?

-Any help would be awesome.

Sounds good. I wasn't able to break 2.6 and had frequent lockups at 2.55. You might have better luck\
with that venice core. My winchester has the best performance and temps at 2.45 (stock cooling)

When I was at 2.5 I did move my cpu voltage at 1.45

But right now at 2.45 I got.
ram 333mhz 2.5-3-3-6 2.8v
245x10x4 1.4375v
pci 100mhz
pci syn 33.33

I've read multiple times, its best to leave the pci clock at 100mhz

Thanks for the quick reply,I mad ethe changes to 1.45 and turned my PCI down to 100MHz. I had it at 1.475 just before this and ran 3D mark for the hell of it and checked my temps after...only went up to 39 celcius after the full run.

Might try playing a few hours of FEAR to see how it handles that.
