ECS P4VXASD2+ Will not boot OS with 512megs
 Date Written
Shane Lawrence Mar 10, 2003, 10:46pm EST Report Abuse
Problem: This MoBo seems to have an unstable memory clock.
Symptoms: Will not boot an OS, returns <a key system file> could not be found or is corrupt, or BSOD Page Fault in Non-Paged Area. The BIOS counts it up fine, but the OS does not boot.
Memory configs- 1x512 pc133, 1x512 pc2700, 2x256 pc2100 ALL FAIL. 1x256 pc2100 boots, but is unstable. The only config Ive found that works is 2x128 pc133. Ive fiddled with the BIOS setting to no end, and even flashed the RON upto the early January 2003 dated E030117s.rom. This supposedly fixed some timing/clock issues and increased stability.

A google search bring up literally HUNDREDS of hits with people having simelar problems, but nobody seems to have posted a difinitive solution except "Bad Dimms" of "POS MoBO". Well I know its a POS MoBo, it was cheap. But it should still work...

I have a support request in to ECS support, and will post here If i get anything back. In the meantime, people can come here and relate their stories with their POS ECS MoBo, or even offer a solution! LOL!

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get this thing to run at 133 mhz fsb, when it is running at 100 mhz everything is fine but the processor only goes at 1.8ghz, instead of the 2.4 it runs at in 133 mhz fsb mode. I have reversed the shorts on the jumpers like the settings on the mobo say, but when i try to turn it on nothing boots up, if i reverse the jumpers back to 100mhz everything works fine?

Excuse me while I *bump*.
So with the FSB issues, onboard sound issues, agp aperature issues, and memory bus issues, is anybody going to argue with me that this is basically a POS MoBo?

The moral of the story? You get what you pay for.

Bad Bad Bad Bad MOBO,good for 10mhz 400fsb but will not work with 133mhz 533fsb .... Yea some guy on here will argue with you ,of course he will argue with anyone about anything.I keep saying ,I owned one of these mobo`s. Go to Intro . page Then to Features under processors it will say 400fsb only that is 100mhz.and it will .But don`t try 133mhz 533fsb it won`t work !!! They say it will that is ECS says it will until you buy it then the updated manual says it is only for a 400fsb 100mhz processor. Thanks I wrote Ecs and they told me it was the retailer`s problem not theirs if it did`nt work in 133mhz 533fsb . Funny I thought ECS built the mobo not the retailer, mabe Bugg`s Bunny built it .Thats why it works like Porky.

I fell victim to this POS motherboard too... I'm going to try and exchange it for a different one, ANYTHING but ECS brand lol...

I'm having video problems with it - I can't play any of my 3d games because the framerates are UNPLAYABLE, LOL, sometimes the screen even freezes for a second or 2, even though my old cpu/motherboard combo is half as fast it can handle the games just fine...

I have been asking around as to what is causing this, in my opinion from the research i've been doing its MOST LIKELY a problem with the memory bus, but it could also be a problem with the AGP bus, maybe both hahaha what a piece of ****

Has anyone had a problem where it freezes during the memory check? My board does this and I am getting ready to return this. Has anyone got a reccomendation for me to run with a 1.7 celeron that I can pick up at Frys?

How much $$$$ are we talking about.
I built my father a pc running 1.7 celeron w/ Gigabyte 5IE533
The board ran me around 90-100$
I used this for its upgrading capabilities and I only use GB boards.
Runs like a champ. But there are many other contenders out there, so keep your options up.

Good luck,

Quote from my father.
