I bought a puter...yahoo, but now there is no disc for xp and found out it is probably not valid....how can I get key w/o buying or figure a way to get updates as needed. Also, have norton corp on this puter and cannot get it off. will not install from control panel because it needs an administrator password...??? I am administrator hahaha....help

Furthermore, I do not have the disc of norton would love to get norton systemworks. but being a single parent cannot afford it. now I need help with getting what I have off.

if you didn't install it, ask the person who did for the admin code, or try inputting blank - just press return.

as far as updates go, not much you can do. however, windows lets you get the security updates regardless of whether or not your copy is legit.

maybe try picking up an OEM copy of windows, usually 100s cheaper than retail.

Also, Norton, grrrrrrrr. If the devil ever made software.............................

The only way I was able to remove Norton fully from my system was to format and re-install Windows.

Its more of a virus than the things it finds. And I mean 'finds', thats all its good at, it doesnt get rid of any viruses.

For your own good, dont use Norton!

If the OS licence isn't valid then go back to the seller and get your money back. If that's not possible, MS do (or did, anyway) a scheme where, if you tell them the details of where you got the system, they send you a genuine copy of the OS for free. I think if you try Windows Update and it tells you your licence isn't valid, there are links which tell you what to do next. But I'd go with the 1st option, if at all possible.
