I loaded up windows on my laptop, and now it wont open any anti virus programmes such as AVG, NTL Guard, Zonealarm etc. The virus (or other problem) has disabled many of the utilities to which i can search windows for viruses / keyloggers etc. I also cannot connect to my other computer (home network - ethernet cable) Windows loads up absolutlely fine, but i cannot seem to access programs that search the HDD for harmfull didgery doos, even the task manager has been disabled "by administrator", which is funny as i am the admin!! I have tried system restore a few times, but the same happens, when windows does load up, it states in 4 error pop up boxes that VCMain, VCClient.exe,hpqthb08.exe have all failed ti initialize properly. I dont know what to do next as i am restricted, please help???

P.S. I have tried running in safe mode, only for the same to happen . . .

You probably have gotten a really nasty Java virus. Try burning your data onto a disk or putting it on a flash in safe mode. Have you tried booting into safe mode with networking capabilites? Because Safe Mode with networking capabilites lets you get onto your home network. Regardless... you are going to need to reload Windows it completely.

Consider dual booting with Linux next time ;)

Kind Regards,
Miles

Cheers Miles, my fears are true then! I thought as much as it needed re-installing . . . are there any ways to combat this in the future, or just put all f/w on high risk???

Cheers
Shaun

Be careful with the orange/red box with white coffee cup with steam icon - that one pretends to be a Java update and it is a very nasty virus. It pops up when you turn on your computer and expects you to click on it. Don't!
