Hi

I hope that someone can help me here :/

I just bought a x-fi Sound Blaster card... I installed it and booted up PC.. When windows loads the screen and colours are at their minimum.. I look in device manager and there is a yellow warning icon on the device (GeForce 6800 Ultra).. It says, unable to find enough resources, please disable another device in the system.. I disable the sound card and re-boot..no change.. I tried to go on the internet but the browser kept crashing.. I took the sound card out of the PC and everything is fine now.

Has anyone come across this before? I'd appreciate any help on this

Thanks

Jon

hahaha, sorry but that sounds really funny that the sound card would screw up ur video settings.........

Download the lastest drivers while ur sound cards is out. attempt to install the drivers with the card not being in the PCI slot. then put the card in and post back.

I dont think your sound card is defectied but more so ur OS which is probably windows.

Have you tried another PCI slot?

Hi

I've tried 4 different PCI slots...None work. I've done a clean install of windows which didn't work either..

The software was installed with the card in (as the manual says).. Should I remove both the card and software and put the software on first? I can't see what this would achieve but I'm no expert...

Thanks for the replies

Jon

Did you disable your onboard sound in the bios before you installed the X-Fi?

Hi

Yes I did... I un-installed the AC'97 software, re-booted then disabled onboard sound. This was before installing the x-fi card.

Thanks
Jon

hmm.... on a more seroius note, it does seem you did everything that I would have done. ( did u follow my first instructions in the earlier post though?)

so I would conclude ur sound card has a defect. however I would be intriged to see a Screen shot of your sound card from the pins.

Well, I gave up on that damn X-Fi... So I took it out and re-enabled onboard sound...But, guess what....MORE PROBLEMS! Now it seems that my left speaker on my 2.1 Megaworks is poppoing and cracking whenever there is a lot going on sound wise... Strange thing is that my headphones work fine.. The megaworks speakers and wires have always been in the same place but I still untangled the leads and moved them away from other leads etc..But still get crackling and popping... What on earth is going on??

Any ideas?

Thanks
Jon

Well, the solution turned out to very simple...But not obvious...

The sound card and video card conflict was never to do with IRQ conflicts... It was a memery enumeration issue caused by the motherboard I believe.. The fix? Increase the aperature size on the Vid card... Solved everything... Except the speakers..They broke.

Thanks for the suggestions

Jon
