Ok, I have a laptop. The internal cd drive is not working for some reason. I need to boot one of my live linux cd's.
There is no option to boot from an external CDROM in the bios. There is an option however, to boot from USB. So, I tried hooking up my cdrom drive by plugging it into my USB port, that did not work.

The only other options are floppy (i dont have a floppy drive), cd (my internal cdrom drive is broken), usb (tried it by plugging in external cdrom drive, didn't work).

I can also hook my cdrom drive up through the PCMCIA port becuase I have a firewire PCMCIA card, so I plug my cdrom drive into that card. However, nothing I have tried works... any solutions?

P.S. yes I have looked for updated bios and I have the current one with all the newest features

thanks for any help

Hmm... if you have an option to boot from USB device, make a linux image on your USB flash drive (memory stick) and it should boot. At least it did for me once, when I needed it. =)

Maybe you need DOS USB drivers for your external cdrom, http://www.bootdisk.com/usb.htm

Do you not have an option in the BIOS to boot from "boot other device" or something along that line?
