This is installed within a Gigabyte GA-7DX F5 mother board system using Win98SE, 256 megs of DDR ram..AMD 761 AGPset.. Now I tested the system with and their tests indicated it was running ok and compared favorably with other systems tested (after I got the right ATA ribbon cable installed) however I notice that my older pc with a 13gig WD 7200rpm ATA66 is much better at copying an image of its C partiton using powerquest Drive Image 2.0, in fact copying 3215.4 MB at an aavg of 202 mb/min in 15 min..50 sec.. while my new system couldnt come close! it copied 2052.4 MB from C to D in 25 min 15 sec avg of 81mb per, what the heck gives ?why is that drive so much faster ?

You seem pretty sure the problem is the hard drive, but I'm thinking it's somewhere else. Is the rest of the system config the same as your old system? Have you installed all the appropriate drives for the chipset? Not installing the correct IDE drivers can sometimes mess things up a bit. Just some stuff to try...

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! My Maxtor hard drive runs perfect, all the time, why, because I know what I am doing.
