When was the last time you were able to get into regeditor? If you can pinpoint a date more or less you could do a system restore. That's possible only if you have not turned it off.

Assuming you've verified that the 'regedit' program file in fact exists, See if using the command regedit32 does anything.

Thanks but that dosent work either. All i can assume is that the regedit program is missing or corrupted.Im going to try to run it in safe mode.

If none of the previous solutions help, try TuneUp Utilities. It has a program like regedit (I've used it before when windows said that my regedit was corrupt).

have you tried going to the folder that its located in which is C:\WINDOWS\system32

also if you have messed with gpedit.msc lately there is a possible chance you enabled a setting in there that prevents you from accessing the registry editing utilities. Ok go to the "Run" command type in gpedit.msc and then click on "System Folder" in the "Directory Tree", under "User Configuration" see if Prevent access to registry editing tools is enabled also check Dont run specified Windows Applications, and run only allowed Windws applications

i just thought of that solution as that can happen sometimes too, the scumware out there is always a likely cause, i mean it seems like MS is comming out with Updates almost every week or something like that now.

also try presing F8 during boot and "restore to the last known good configuration"

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Ive had this happen to me a few times before. The only way I fixed it was with a reformat. If you do this, just make sure you backup any and all important data.

What happens when you try to access the regedit? Error message, blue screen, shuts down?

I would just get an error message saying that it was missing or corrupt or something like that. Although, I do not speak on behalf of the original poster.
