I'm having trouble getting the USB ports to work properly under Windows 2000 SP1. A USB mouse moves very, very slowly and a USB network adapter will only ping if the TTL is set to over 2000ms or it will timeout. The system has two 1GHZ PIII CPUs, but the BIOS is set to 500MHZ by default. Any ideas?

I used a USB mouse with the board, and didn't have any problems. Have you installed all the appropriate VIA drivers? http://www.viatech.com ... Also, if it's just moving too slowly, you could compensate by increasing the pointer speed in the Mouse menu in Control Panel.

Regarding the CPUs - what exactly do you mean? Is the board booting at 500MHz? Or is it just reading 500MHz in the BIOS or something?

As to the USB network card, I don't have any of those around that I can try, so I might not be of much help there. Sorry. :-)

>> CPU speed not set correctly by BIOS
I had to manually set the multiplier and FSB in the bios on my DVD266-R to get my 2xPIII 1GHz to post at 1GHz instead of 500MHz at boot-up.

>> Few questions....
What board are you using?

Have you updated the BIOS to the latest revision? Or at least checked if there are any BIOS revisions that take care of that issue?

Another question, if you use only one processor in the board, does it recognize it correctly?

>> Same USB performance problem

I'm having the same USB performance problem mentioned above, except with a 3Com HomeConnect USB camera, I'm only able to get 1 frame per second at low resolution. I have visited the http://www.viatech.com site and I've installed all of the drivers that I can find, but no luck getting any performance out of USB.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

>> Max 150MHz FSB
I just looked at the specifications for the board and they say that bus frequencies up to only 150MHz are supported even though the article says that frequencies up to 200MHz are supported!?

Could someone please tell me which is true...

Regards

Hey Anders,

66 MHz to 200 MHz is correct. Wherever it says 150 MHz must be some sort of misprint. My board, and every other one I've seen, has adjustments up to 200 MHz in 1 MHz increments.
