Hi all,
I have a serious problem:
I bought the international version of Dark Messiah, and it is running extremely slow.
It takes over 5 minutes to load a savegame or new levels, and then runs REAL choppy. It does so for about 30 seconds to 1minute, or whenever my HDD shows activity. I tried turning the graphical detalis down, but that only affects it minorly. My specs are way over the minimum, so I'm really clueless. Other games (including HL2 on highest details)run perfectly smooth. Any ideas?

regards
Oliver Hutterer

Looking at your PC setup you shouldn't have a problem running that game at all. You may want to consider removing your current NVIDIA drivers by un-installing them, then completely remove them after with Drive Cleaner Pro.

Then go & download the newest drivers from NVIDIA, after all that, Defrag your Raid 0. Then see how it performs.

If you still have problems, then if could be anumber of different things. Try redusing the image quality of the game or something just to see if it will do the same thing.

Good Luck.,

Don't rule out AMD so fast, they can't be the best all the time. ;)

Try re-installing the game.

Sounds like a corrupt install or your raid on the brink of failure.

Try patching the game to latest patch. I've read people having serious performance issues with the game unpatched.

If the patch didnt fix your performance issue with the game. Try setting the texture to medium.

Well,
did the following: de-installed the graphics driver then cleaned the whole thing up with driver cleaner pro. Deleted a bunch of un-needed data junk from the HDD and defraged a couple of times. Patched the game and defraged again. It ran perfectly smooth after that for about 1 1/2 days, and now it's back to the same again: I get a bunch of HDD activity, and the game slows WAY down. Any ideas?

I've got these same problems, only when I started the game it ran fine...beautifully on high details actually...then deeper and deeper into the game it got slower and slower...till finally around Chapter Seven? Fire in the blood? its almost unplayable....starting to take a couple seconds per step, and the dialogue is useless...now I'm facing the giant worm and its impossible. drivers are whiped and new. newst patch (that I know of). even dropped my graphics down to the barest minimum....nothing. Odd that it was progressively getting worse and worse...almost like there was an overflowing cache or some sort of memory leak going on. I loaded up an earlier save game form like chapter 4 or 5 and it ran smooth, so I tried loading up saved games and you could still feel the progressive behavior and now I'm back in chapter 7 and its aggrevating! :)

Why even post that if you have no possible solution to give? Can you prove that it happens mostly on nVIDIA based cards? Whose to say he even likes those other games you mentioned?

its called suggestion to either go and play oblivion/NWN2 or wait in desperation until problem is solved

Actually I played Oblivion when it came out and to be honest I wasn't impressed. not so sure what the hype is about. in my opinion the entire elder scroll line was some of the worst games ever created, and the graphics were just sad...

That aside...DM would be incredible if the damn game didn't bug out on me :) Kinda predictable plot, but at least it has one....way more so than oblivion, but i digress :)

I'm just curious why my game ran perfect until the end of chapter 6 and it started going downhill from there (shrug)

You know, I'll be straight up honest here. I hate it when I have a problem with a game, and someone suggests, "Well go play (insert prime competitor here)."

I.e. "I'm having a problem with Half-Life 2."

"Should've gotten Halo 2. Much better."

My 2 cents.

MD, do you have the latest patches, and the latest video card drivers for your card?

Saying that the "solution is...umm..." and then telling him to go play another game that he does not have any interest in at the moment, isnt a very good suggestion Im afraid. He is going to want to get his problem resolved rather than just get so far, quit because of an issue and play something else. He is more involved with DM for the time being.

Then there was the bit with the graphics card. Not sure if that is true or not. So I will just leave it at that.

Ah, damn, I missed that. I tried to re-read his post, but just missed it. Getting tired, methinks. :P

Turn your settings down. That game requires at least 512mb card on the highest settings and 2GB of system ram and 3500+ that isn't the greatest processor these days.

That means a 6600 512 mb can play the game at the highest settings given it is coupled with 2gb of ram and a fast cpu? The point is, the game is just a very unoptimized POS. I have an 8800 gts mb 320 + AMD 3800 X2 + 1.5 gb ram and it performs pretty bad in later levels at ANY settings. I probably get less than 40 fps avg.

Well if you go back and read everyone's post you'll note:

Graphics cards are good enough.
Graphics drivers are fully updated
Patches are Fully updated
Tried graphics turned down to lowest settings (as well as sound)

Result....still suckin the life out of the PC.

So not to be snippy, lets try to get an answer, and stop repeating the same one that doesn't work :)

Graphics shouldn't work 100% fine at the highest setting for 7 of 9 chapters in the game then suddenly stop working....should it? If it is the graphics card, then why can I go back a chapter or two and it work fine and start studdering again at the same spot?

People also keep saying update the patch....whats the date on the most up to date patch? Its not like this game came out last week, its been out over a year. There's a reason why it costs 9 bucks at Circuit City....

No, I don't want to go play Half life 2, beat it...over it a long time ago...no I don't want to go play Oblivion...beat it...BORING...next...no I don't want to play NW2...beat it multiple times...old news......I'm playing DM....I want to finish DM....I'm 2 chapters away from finishing it, I would like to continue...Please help with THIS game. Thank you :)
