I wanna know why it's not GDDR4?!?!?!

Why does this card still have GDDR3????!!

The card is the dogs bollocks, but it would be the ultimate if it had DDR4!

might have been defective, but i definitely didn't help it :P

it ran fine for a couple hours, so i figured it to be a good card.

the next logical step was to take off the heatsink, put it in a glass chamber of compressed argon and do a 3d map of heat dissipation with the thermal pulse laser.
..it's the same thing i do with every other card since the x850xt-pe

however when i put the card back in the case, it didn't boot.

i've sinced moved on to the next card.. mapped it, booted with it, and played a little GRAW with it. this one seems to work fine.

problem is, nothing on this card heat's up or cool off evenly, at either operating, or laser temps. which makes for a mess of math :~ and the real possibility that im moving to 3 condensers, and 3x 2 piece blocks per card. :X

i need a beer... and a smoke.
there's got to be a better way of doing this.

The early reports are that water cooling a 8800GTX is largely a disaster unless you use a full sized block. There are way too many little components that need to be cooled by a heatsink, and not just the memory chips.

FOR SALE:
One slightly used EVGA 8800GTX, scores 21,085 3dmark05 @ 685/2080
needs a little TLC, and may still be covered in some PCB contaminant :P
$0.01cdn OBO

well i gave up on water and phase... consulted an employee (dave, 37yrs) on 2 cooling solutions, then flipped a coin between them.

dave got PCB's (illegal to produce, but not to use, store or have)
I got mineral oil

step 1.
seal two bare cards in a high volume capillary casings (aluminum).. with circulation pump. (in this case 9.6v makita drill motor on low)
step 2.
attach resevoir with cooling sink to each with pump
step 3.
fill capillary chamber on card #1 with viscous refined mineral oil mixture and chamber on card #2 with PCBs
step 4.fill resevoir #1 & #2 with liquid fluorine (-130C)
step 5.
clock the royals**t out of them

step 6. .. umm we forgot to actually do step 6. .. monitor the temperature and flow of the coolants at all times.

three down, one to go. :D
---------------------------------------------
o.. in case you're wondering, i picked heads.. and clearly lost :P

lol Phil...hope you don't blow them all up just yet :) When you get a break from your PCBs, I wouldn't mind hearing a little more about your thermal dissipation testing if you have the time...

I already know of a couple of dead cards. Water cooling so far has been a disaster, except that we don't know about the BFG/Danger Den ones because they ship in about 2 weeks (from yesterday's order).

Another thing. For all manufacturers I know, there's a sticker over some of the screws on the back. You cannot remove the heatsink without destroying that sticker, and there goes the warranty. So, no consumers can go out and buy third party heatsink and water cooling block solutions. This sucks.

Beware of those voltage regulators. Those need to be cooled badly.

I do know that the air cooling yields very little overclocking ability... up to 640 Mhz core only. I know you don't think highly of Shamino, but check out his article published today.

Spoke to Gabriel Rouchon at Swiftech. He's shaking his head :)

Phil,

Pardon me asking... where T_F do you find FOUR 8800GTX cards locally? I haven't found a single one.. in a metropolitan area with a 60 million population....

nope i still got one.. it's still in the box, and is gonna stay that way, till i get back from a job site in halifax on monday.

as for time, sure i got a ton of time, especailly since i've run out of spare video cards to destroy... just beer, scotch and a pay checks to sign for the rest of the day. (unless of course, dave's got anymore bright ideas) ;)

easy, $150 at the strip joint will get you alot.

see here's your problem, you live in the US, with almost 400million people, and a metro of 60 million people..

i live in canada with less than 40million people, and markham being just outside of toronto, computer shops are A. located close to distributers.. and B. close to strip clubs.

so how many cards do you think manufacturers shipped per capita to your metro area?.. multiply that number by 4, 5, or 10 and you see the picture in southern ontario.

Do you have a decent mobo? Or are you using another one of those Foxconn mobos? (aka EVGA, BFG, XFX, ECS, etc.) ?

Forget 8800GTX. I cha;;enge anyone to even buy a one-year old 7800GTX in retail locations in New York City lol :) 7800GT is considered ultra high end here lol :)

I have resolved that I am moving to Santa Clara, California lol :)

And yeah. The strip club may cost you $150. I am afraid it may cost me a whole more than that... never mind the other video card for SLI... how about my house? :)
