Hi,
my house is prewired with cat5. The communication box is in the closet. They didn't use the patched panel, I'm not sure if it is a punched down block or else. how can I connect from the panel to the dsl modem? Is there a type of connector that can hook up to the panel and plug into the modem or router?

thanks

Can you give me alittle more detail? Is a DSL line ran to the telecommunications closet? Did you say there was or wasnt a patch panel there? If you have quiet a few drops, I'd install one. Then get a switch to handle all the drops or buy a router w/switch that has enough ports. But either way, you'll need a router.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding this installation.

Do you mean the grey telecoms box outside for the dsl portion? or are you trying to figure out how to pipe in dsl through your coms box in your house? my place has one too, I just put the dsl modem in the closet, and then ran the connection through the prewire and then connected outside

the box is in the closet. All the cables are marked with the number to tell which room it is running to so I can tell there is one line in and other lines are out to all the rooms. I think it is a punched down block because it doesn't have a jack for me to hook up the cable with the router. I've googled but can't get any detail how to connect it to router

If networked correctly, there should be a patch panel. I'd call the phone company and check to see where the DSL comes in and make sure there is a line going to the closet. Then hook up the modem, router and run all the cables as needed. You'll just need a router/switch with enough ports to accomodate the number of nodes in your house. I'm assuming your DSL requires a modem and is not ran directly to your house. If it's ran directly to the house, there should be a cable, cat5 port or RJ45 jack somewhere. But if your not sure, call your DSL provider. Might be worth calling a local network tech to help speed the process.

Good luck with the installation and we'll be happy to answer any questions.
