Hi,

I got Toshiba Satellite 5200 and it won't boot. Actually it seems it doesn't even check the system before running OS. So I tried to get in BIOS setup and it just shows me time, date and BIOS password setup inforamtion only, no other information.

Some repair engineers told me it might be HDD problem and suggested me to get new HDD but it cost me more than 200 pounds. So firstly I like to know if it's really a HDD problem? If then, I like to arrange new HDD myself, probably any HDD for lapton, and install by myself. Please give me some advice for me.

Thanks

Try removing the HDD and then booting. If it is the HDD, it should run the POST and give a message that there is no OS. You may also try booting from a CD. Let me know how it works out.

Thanks for your reply,

I tired what you said and it shows me 'insert system disk in drive and press any key...' something like that...

Then, is this really HDD problem?

Have you tried booting from a CD or floppy?

Actually it seems my CD is not working so I tried Floppy Disk and it's working.

It would seem then that your HDD is bad. If you have access to Norton Windoc, you might try it and see if it corrects the problem. Otherwise, you will ne4ed to replace the HDD. In most cases, it isn't hard install the HDD or the operating system. It just takes time. When installing the OS, be sure to follow the onscreen Instructions carefully.
