Okay, I'll get right to the point...I just put together a new machine with a Sony DVD drive (model #: ddu1612) and every time I try to play a DVD movie with any player, whether it be Interactual, Windows Media Player, PowerDVD, or Realplayer, I get an error message saying "The instruction at "0x7c911c48" referenced memory at "0xfffffff8". The memory could not be "read"."

Sometimes, the instruction and referenced memory combinations different, but it's the same pop-up with all the players. I don't think it's firmware, seeing as how this drive worked fine before...

Could someone help me out with this? Thanks.

Try a different ide cable, or end over end it perhaps. Try the rom on the primary than secondary hook up on the cable. try the rom on a different ide off your mobo.

Try slave master or cs. Im sure it isnt your rom.

I am having the same problem but it happens to all video (.VOB) files and not just playing DVDs. The other files are on my SATA hard disk. I don't have a different cable to try but will get one today.

I'm curious to know why if happens on HDD if it's cable or IDE chain. Seems to me it's something else.

Thanks in advance

Perhaps your BIOS needs to be flashed? I've had problems with older BIOS's and newer devices, had to flash and that seemed to fix the problem. Another issue you might be having is CODECS. You can find a really good free pack of audio/video codecs here:

Good luck! :)
