I installed Vista again but this time went with Home premium x64 instead of Ultimate x64.

Nevertheless, I have not messed with services.msc or msconfig yet, so nothing has really been brought down process or RAM wise.

I bought a Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card today so I have sound in Vista. So far, the following games I have tried and work 100% with full settings on my setup and use under 2GB of RAM with no slowdowns.

Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings
Age of Empires II: The Conquerors
Area 51
BF2
BF2142
BF2142 Northern Strike
Call of Heroes (new demo)
Cellfactor: Revolution

If you are waiting on Logitech to release drivers for Vista, you may want to check. Last month, they did not have any Vista drivers for my keyboard/mouse and now, they have both versions. I will update my post accordingly when I install new games/apps.

It seems as though with the new release of nVidia drivers that it has made games run much more smooth. A month ago when I last tried Vista and FEAR, It lagged really bad and ate up 1.75GB of RAM with full settings. This time, I have the new nVidia drivers and ran it the same way I did a month ago and it ran flawless. Though, the game did want to freeze when I tried to quit the game.

EDIT: 4:36AM added FEAR to the list.

EDIT: 5:29PM added Dawn of War Dark Crusade to the list

*NOTE The game seems to not work with G80 cards and Vista. As of right now, Relic is working on a patch (v1.2) to fix this issue. However, there is a quick fix for it and the guys at Relic says its 100% safe. You can find it here: http://forums.relicnews.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10888

Instructions: Navigate to the directory where Dawn of War is installed. Open the drivers folder>backup the file spdx9_config to a safe place>Replace it with the file in the link above. Here is the thread that you can find the quick fix. http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=136168&page=1&pp=15

If you install the patch when it comes out to fix the original issue, you have to copy back the original spdx9_config file then update to the new patch.

**NOTE: Aero only gets disabled for Photoshop. The rest of the system will run the Aero feature. I hear that CS3 will fix that bug.

***NOTE: Version 5.5.1 has some Vista bugs which version 6 fixes.

****NOTE: Latest update for Trillian 3.1 fixes bugs for Windows Vista. More noticeably, the auto changing from Aero to basic is now fixed.

I installed Vista again but this time went with Home premium x64 instead of Ultimate x64. However, I have reason to believe that Ultimate still installed because I have Media center and what not installed.

Media Center comes with Home Premium too. :-P

Just check your System control panel or run winver, it will tell you which version is installed. If you want to check the license, run slmgr.vbs -dlv from a command prompt. That will tell you which license is installed (Home Premium, Ultimate, etc).

No Media Center is in Home Premium and Ultimate. Not in Home Basic or Business.

Home Basic = crap
Home Premium = XP Media Center Edition
Business = XP Pro
Ultimate = XP Pro + Media Center + Bitlocker all in one

You can also add iTunes and Quicktime to that list.

I think Vista is awesome. There is a small similarity between it and Tiger but I like the Vista skin and set up better. The whole going through different windows thing is so cool. :D

Also, the price isn't actually that high. The OEM version of Home Premium is only about $159.99 CDN while the Ultimate version is $265.99 CDN. Windows XP Pro OEM is still $130+ CDN while Home is $100+ CDN. So, no complaints there.

Done. (I checked into it myself to make sure) :)

Vista really is a good OS. Ive got all my games using either under a gig or 25-30MB shy of 2GB. Some are just over a gig. All with full settings and the like.

I heard Jobs mention something about iTunes not working on Vista ... but I use it, and it works just fine for everything that I do with it.

If we're adding programs to the list ... some programs that I've run with no problems:

• Azureus
• VLC
• Winamp
• Google Earth
• Nero 7

I'm now booting my system between XPx64 and Vistax32.
I purchaced the full retail version of Vista Ultimate, but didn't have the balz to go Vista 64.
I did run into some quirks during the installation, but it was actually an easier install than my last re-install of XP x64.
I've only installed one game, my favorite, but the memory management and processor utilization seems to be more efficient under Vista than it was under XPx64.
I'll shortly attempt a x64 installation of Vista and will report back on it after I get my taxes done.....

That whole iTunes not working on Vista thing was just a way for Apple to make Vista look bad. It's just the the kind of dirty business practices that Apple is known to do. The whole point was that hopefully all 90 million iPod users would not upgrade to Vista and instead buy a Mac, or at least stick with their current XP system and buy a Mac in the future. But in the end, it was just all a bunch of Apple-certified BS.
