Dell has recently announced two clear window panel designs for their top of the line XPS gaming machine. They are asking people to vote on which one they prefer.
http://www.ideastorm.com/recent/articles/you_choose#

Personally I prefer the one with the square window over the X style window. But it seems most people have been voting for the x-style window.

I have to admit this is the coolest looking Dell I have ever seen. It's not overly done with flair and bling either. It's very classy, and not to flashy.

Dell supports overclocking by the user on their top of the line XPS gaming desktop, and now there gonna put a window on it. Just goes to show you that this stuff is getting more and more mainstream.

The 'X' design is cool and all, but you can't see anything.

I don't like the front design at all and the windows are too small to even be not worthy. Also, I don't fancy upside down mounted motherboards that much which places the window on the wrong side of the case.

I actually don't mind upside down motherboards (BTX style, or upside down ATX). Actually Lian Li sells a bunch of these style cases, and most normal ATX motherboards will work fine in them. Except ones with heatpipe coolers which brings a bit of a cooling issue from what I heard due to the design of the way heatpipes work.

The window's much too small, but the case design itself is solid. I really dig it.

the "BTX" style lowers performance of video cards (think heat rises)

It lowers cooling performance of heatpipes as well.

While I like the cases I think the most interesting thing is the fact that Dell actually has the ideastorm site and is asking their customers-to-be these questions and listening to the feedback. There aren't many companies that do that, in fact I can't even think of one at the moment.

In other Dell news today, they are going to pre-load Ubuntu Linux - see http://news.google.com/news?q=dell+ubuntu

the xps with its mighty cooling system only has the QX6700 overclock to 3.2Ghz and even when you select the 3.46Ghz option, you can still get a pc with a higher clocked QX from the factory. along with the fact that the ram is only clocked at 667Mhz. but then again i dont need to bash them because every other pc mag has already done that. sexy case and window though

That case looks like a damned engine intake from a fighter jet. :P

Looks like they're trying too hard, to me.

Yeah they should use DDR2-800 at least. Still though, for a pre-built system, I respect the Dell XPS line. It's not the best, but in my experience Dells are built pretty good.

Yeah thats great that they are listening to consumers. This ideastorm was created after Micheal Dell returned to the CEO position of the company. He's trying hard to bring the company he founded back to the #1 position in PC marketshare. I'm sure he wasn't too happy when HP passed up Dell to become #1 last year, the first time Dell wasn't number 1 since (I think) 2003.
