if someone could tell me a website or somewhere i could get a cheap processor...well it doesnt have to be cheap just something good that could run off an old MOBO

In order to recommend a value CPU we need to know what are you planning on using the computer for.

Gaming? Casual/ business? Server? Graphic design? Photo/ video editing?

What motherboard is it? Or at least do you know what chipset and socket type?

Also, how much are you willing to spend. You can get some fairly decent processors for around $100, depending on what you're looking to do with this computer.

Geez ... X2's for under $80 ... I paid twice that for my Venice. XD

Last time I check there was a Athlon X2 for 64$ on Newegg.com. Now that's cheap and very very good.

ok so im coming back on this topic for the last time i ended up not getting a new processor
but now i have mor info on what type of mobo i have it is a http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/action/r/http://www.via.com.tw/en/initiatives/empowered/pc3500_mainboard/index.jsp . i would like to get the best possible processor for under 200 that is definatly compatible with this MOBO.

It quite clearly states on the page you linked to that it supports only the Via C7 processors. No other CPU's use that socket or chipset (AFAIK)

Can the CPU even be removed from the board?

Exactly what I was thinking. Its essentially a non-upgradable low power, high efficiency, low cost system for the likes of a HTPC.

Not gonna get much more out of it....

i bought one earlier this week with a $50 biostar mobo/cheap patriot mem & i am running it @ 2.9 ghz and am somehow getting a ~30C load temp and a 14C idle. seems like a good processor. not dual core tho...

No offense but that mobo is the most ghetto mobo I have ever seen.
