well mark, im on the road to overclocking just like u are, the q6600 was more tricky overclocking than my E6600 where i didnt have to change the voltages at all..

you do realise the P5NE sli adjust voltage automatically up to a certain point when overclocking. if you ran it 3.2ghz, its likely the board bumped the voltage a little without you knowing it. mine will run auto volts up to 3.5ghz, then i need to override if i want to go further and set it manually

I noticed today that CPU-z is showing that my processor is running at 2000Mhz steady with a multi of x6 when in fact, I should be running at 3000Mhz with a multi of x9. Any idea as to how I can rectify this?

Does it fluctuate bewteen 3000MHz and 2000MHz? If so then....

Not sure which MoBo you have Mark, but on my Commando, in BIOS there's a
C1E option in the CPU Settings. This is an option to relieve the OC stress on CPU
when your on Desktop, or puter sitting idle. Disable that in BIOS.

Tam.....

It does not. In fact, it will drop to 1999.x for a brief second (if that) then shoot back up to 2000MHz.

I disabled the C1E option and its a no go. Ive tried firing up Prime95 and running CPUz at the same time and it doesnt even jump.

i just overclocked my q6600 go stepping to a very low 3ghz also by upping the front side bus to 333mhz and unlinking the ram/fsb, thats all i did and its stable i think im new to overclocking i hit around 38 - 40 c at idle between all cores and around 51 - 60 c at max on stock fan.

Gents

I hope you don't mind me responding out of the blue ... just purchased a new PC, Quad 6600 on a Biostar Mobo and I'm getting the same thing ... CPUZ (1.42) says that my multiplier is 6 and my Core Speed = 1598.5. I thought that the quad ran using a 9x multiplier. Although there should be a CPU clock multiplier option in the BIOS, it's not there !! (I've mailed Biostar to ask why). Mobo is a P4M900-M7 SE (says on the box) altho CPUZ reads it as P4M90-M7A.

I've touched nothing in the BIOS as yet. Bit of a disappointment - not that much better than my old Athlon 3000!

No experience of Biostar - usually go for ASUS. Was a good deal - at least I thought it was!

Regards, Brian
