$title =~ s/\'/\\\'/g;

above is the code im using to make sure i can put special characters into a mysql database. Its inside a perl script. It works fine but i don't completly understand why...can someone explain it to me.... i think it has somthing to do with the ' being used to enter a comand string and the \ makes it the ' not be read.

any explination on the whole line of code would help

thanks
jeremy
