Everest Home Edition ( may not work on Vista )
Good program for a complete analysis of your PC, with the ability to save it as a .txt or .html ( good for posting on forums ). Also will tell you temps of HDDs, CPU, GPU and system. Pretty much tells everything you need to know about your PC.

Here's a good freeware resource. The website editors do a very good job of vetting the programs, and have multiple mirrors for most programs listed. Site also includes some shareware/donateware programs. They warn you if a program contains toolbars, is adware, etc. There are other good download sites (like filehippo) but I like majorgeeks.
http://www.majorgeeks.com

Another source of info about good freeware programs is Ian Richard's (Gizmo) site. He reviews and compares software and has often agreed with me (or at the least programs I've found useful and reliable are on his list) By definition, he therefore knows what he's doing. :)

I have Everest Ultimate installed in Vista on my other partition and it works wonderfully. It even has an option to put the temp information and stuff into Vista's sidebar.

Ctrl+F to search for words on a page. Works in both Firefox and MS IE. So use it. That way you can make sure your not posting the same utilities as someone else.

Yeah, those SysInternal programs are great ... my favorite is Process Monitor (not to be confused with Process Explorer). It's great for nailing down what program is doing what, and when.

I added individual links for each category. So when you click on the link for "Networking Utilities", it will pop up with the website and all of the networking utilities they have to offer.
