Title pretty much says it. I looked at 3dmark 2001 se and that is how it describes it. I even bought the retail version of the 2500 barton and it still comes up as that. Is there something not registering? Is it a freak accident that somehow teh ships got messed up at the factory? I mean the box was totally sealed. Do i need to flash my bios or something? i have a new asus A7n8x deluxe MOBO. Just wondering why this is showing up like this? and if maybe i am missing something and it is just messed up. any help?

The motherboard could have been manufacture before the Barton shiped in which case the BIOS may not recognise the CPU id code to display the correct title.

Also it looks like you PC is running too slow. The Barton should run at 11x166 whereas yours is running at 11x100. Try this link:

http://www.asus.co.jp/products/mb/socketa/a7n8x-d/jumper.htm

Setting the FSB to the correct value may allow it to be detected as a Barton, if not then you'll have to update the BIOS. Instructions are onsite.

Ok well i checked the jumper and it looked good. Just what it needs to be. I will get my bios flashed now.
Here is what 3dmark2001 se says my computer is:

Manufacturer: AMD
Family: Duron(tm)
Internal Clock: 1.09 GHz
Internal Clock Maximum: 3 GHz
External Clock: 100 MHz
Socket Designation: Socket A
Type: <unknown>
Upgrade: ZIF Socket
Capabilities: MMX, CMov, RDTSC, 3DNow!, Extended 3DNow!, SSE
Version: AMD Athlon(tm) XP
CPUID: 0x000006a0

just bought this brand new everything like late this week.

So your jumper is on pins 1 & 2 and your BIOS reads the FSB as 166(333)?

I bought the same processor: AMD XP 2500 Barton 333, but i have a different motherboard: MSI K7N2 Delta. However my problem is basically the same.
My motherboard detects my Barton as an Athlon XP 1900+, with a clockspeed of 1466 mhz.

I already updated my bios, but nothing happened.

id be very grateful if you could help me
thanks

I also have the same board and CPU.It says FSB 333 on the box but I note that the box has an aditional label stuck on
that pronounces that it is a FSB 400 dual channel DDR 400. It also has a side sticker saying that it is
P/N (part number?) 6570-020. I venture to guess that this could be the Duron problem. Also I see
that the manual supplied really has poor instructions and the factory settings are not correct for the Barton
CPU which has to be set via the Bios AND the Board.Jumpers. The Barton when set correctly should read 1.83Ghz
WITHOUT overclocking

Hi

So if my AMD 2200 is recognized as a Duron 1800 how do I know if I am getting all the extra benefits of having this Athlon chip? Doesnt the Athlon have more cache and stuff like that? How do I double check that I am getting this extra performance?

Thanks again

Jer

The chip will be working fine. The BIOS has just referenced the wrong name and called it a DURON,

either update your BIOS, or Download this freeware program Aida32 and look at the system info. if it has 256k ok L2 cache and 128k of L1, ur fine

Before you start your computer, press and hold the TAB button. Start computer, if your internal clock is still showing 1.09 GHz, then press Del and hold until you get into your bios. Adjust your chipset to what ever it should be, and make sure that your FSB and System Bus are in Sync(100%). Then save and Esc. Before your system restarts, keep the TAB button pressed until the screen shows up that tells you what you CPU, speed and FSB are. If you still have the same problem, e-mail me at nt300@excite.com with your exact computer INFO, and I'll try to help you.
For anybody that has the Asus A7N8X (Deluxe) Motherboard, Always press and hold the TAB key when you start and/or Restart your computer. This enables Duel Channel Mode whether you have 1 memory or more. I see a performance increase.. Good Luck...

Don't rule out AMD so fast, they can't be the best all the time. ;)

You need to download the latest BIOS “an8d1004.zip” which you can find here. http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A7N8X%20Deluxe
Then you will have many options like Single Channel DDR & Duel Channel DDR.
I had the same problem until I upgraded my Bios. Now my computer recognizes Barton Cores. With good CPU cooling you can also over clock the AMD Athlon XP 2500+ at speeds faster than the 3200+.
Here is my INFO
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.30GHz
Asus A7N8X Deluxe Bios 1004…
Volcano 7+ (2000rpm, 4000rpm, 6200rpm) (max CPU Temp. is 48oC)
2 x King Max 512MB DDR400 Memory (Duel Channel)
Asus 128MB Ge-Force4 Ti4200 video card
System FSB 368 MHz / System Clock 184 MHz
Multiplier 12.5 X
My system reads as Athlon XP 2800+, and runs like an Athlon XP 3200+

Good Luck…

Alright, first of all ASUS's website is having some major difficulties with any type of download, its starting to really annoy me.
I currently have an Athlon XP 2500 (Barton) 333mhz, an A7N8X Deluxe, Ive double checked the jumpers on the thing to make sure its set to the 333mhz-400mhz setting, and I've gone through the Bios in the Chipset Features, but I can't seem to figure out where you guys are talking about changing your Chipset Bios to make it recognize the CPU at a fast speed. I did get an updated Bios however, but it was German, my computer recognizes Barton, but it doesn't recognize my CPU as a 1.83ghz processor, it still reads as a 1100mhz AMD Athlon.
Some help with the Bios or Bios jumpers would be very very helpeful if anyone can lend me a hand here. Ive been messing with this thing all night, it runs fine, but I'd really like it to register my real processor.
-Thanx
