I have the winfast K7NCR18-PRO MOTHERBOARD W/AMD 180 Athlon Processor and 512 meg of Samsung memory. The computer constantly locks up. when double clicking on a file to open it, when pressing on ctl, alt, delete to open the "close program, end task ", this opens but when attempting to close a program, it locks up. This is a constant thing, just about every time I try to go from one directory to another, it locks up. I have reformated the hard drive and completed a virgin install of ME, did all the windows updates, etc. I can put the drive in my other, p-3, ABIT mobo computer and it does not lockup, doing the same thing.

Does anybody have any experience with this MOBO/processor/Operating System?
Any help would be appreciated.

It's just a hunch, but check in the BIOS to see how much is set aside for AGP aperture size. I've had problems with this before so I turned this setting down by half and was able to function. In one other case, I had to actually remove some of my RAM to make my computer work. The OS maps a certain amount of memory for processes and hardware (Win98 uses 800MB as its number), so if you have too little left, there's nothing for the OS to work with. So, for example, you have a video card with 64MB RAM on it, and the BIOS has the AGP aperture size mapped to 128MB, it's actually locking in 128MB that can't be used by any other process, including the OS. Check the P3 for the setting there in the BIOS. Chances are it's smaller, or that video card has less RAM on it so it's not a problem there. Aperture size seems best when matched with the amount of RAM on the video card. Other choices of possible causes: faulty video drivers (reinstall or upgrade drivers); IRQ conflict with video and another device (check Device Manager; many solutions but pull the device in conflict with the video card to rule this problem out); faulty RAM or mismatched RAM; bad power supply. The list goes on. Hope one of these works for ya.,,Coop
