Im sure there's a big thread for this somewhere but i have 32bit vista. Tried a ton of versions of nvidia drivers for 8800gtx (including wndows updates nvidia drivers) and i get BSOD before vista boots. As SOON as those drivers go on the problem occurs. Argh!!! Why can't windows just WORK? Any ideas on the problem? Thanks.

Windows DOES work, its just what you pair with your system that might not.

Is your CPU overclocked? Is your video card overclocked? Have you ruled out other problems such as overheating or a bad video card? Possibly even RAM?

Please post the exact error message you get.

Is Vista up to date?? (all updates installed)

Have you got all the power connectors plugged in? Your PSU is sufficient?

What card had you got before the 8800?

Did you remove the old drivers thoroughly before installing the new ones?

Did it boot properly prior to installing the drivers?
How did you manage to install new drivers if you constantly get a blue screen before windows fully loads?

Have you changed anything else recently?

Clean install. Completely new system. Nothing carried over to this system except hard drives and i wiped them before installing vista. Have tried it with no updates installed and ALL updates installed. No difference.

750W Ulra X Pro SLI approved power supply

Yes, Windows boots fine with the standard vga controller drivers that come with windows. As soon as i install nvidia drivers though, blue screen.

havent changed anything just built this system yesterday

Also, wiped hard drives and reinstalled XP. Same problem. So now im thinking it's the video card but the f'ing thing is fine until I give it nvidia display drivers.

Rember, you can always get a hold of evga on this one also. They are fast to respond.

I have a simmilar problem and havent found a solution yet..
I bought an 88gts evga. I had just burnt up the bios chip in my msi k8n neo4 platinum mobo. So i went to the local pc store for a get me by mobo while i was ordering my new bios chip. They sold me the msi k8n neo4-f, which is the final upgraded version of my board.

I had just got my 8800 a few days before my chip went out. (bad flash) With this new board i constantly got bsod. No matter what drivers i used or even using nvidias drivers for my mobo. I contacted HWA and evga. Still no solution.Everything worked fine with my old x800xl though. When my bios chip arrived, i put my old mobo back in with the 8800 and i have never had a bsod since....

I assume my problem is a mobo problem... But i really dont know. Im just trying to give you an idea of other possible problems.System specs at the time are listed below (nov 2007)

GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3, 2600k @ 4.0
16 gig Corsair Vengeance
Evga gtx 260 216, samsung 2253lw"
Baracuda 7,200.12 CoolerMaster 212 +
Win 7 64, fsp fx700-gln, Razer DA,G15

Hmmm that's interesting...thanks. I would not be surprised in the least if it was the mobo. My P4C800-E deluxe was DOA when i set up my old computer about 4 years ago.

Tonight I will be trying a brand new 8800GT. If I have the same problem I'm calling Asus. My memory is fine, and there's no way in hell an 8800GTX and 8800GT are both malfunctioning.

If it is the mobo i wish the f'ing thing was DOA. At least then i could be sure it's the mobo.

All in all im just amazed that windows based hardware is still this spotty. It is almost impossible to build a rig and have it work from the get-go. Drivers for components released almost a year ago are still having compatibility issues. It's f'ing ridiculous.

A lot of it is luck. 99% of the time the build will go smoothly ( if you know what you're doing ).
You have just come across a bad piece of hardware which you can't control.

So I got an 8800gt (brand new) just to see if it's my GTX acting up. Same problem. At this point i think ive ruled out every possible piece of hardware except the mobo and asus tech support agreed. I'm sending the board in to get RMA'd.

God dammit. Bought COD4 yesterday and was looking forward to playing it and some unreal 3 demo but now i guess i'll have to fire up the old rig (see below + x1950pro instead of 9800xt) and play some COD4 on medium graphics :) Better than nothing I guess. F you Asus! This is probably the last Asus board I buy.

FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I went out and got a 7200rpm seagate barracuda.

Same setup, and now it's working fine.

I guess this Ultra X "SLI approved" psu is not strong enough for an 8800gtx (or 8800gt) and two 10k rpm raptors. Quite pathetic.

Still, i did one other thing different which was installed a vista hotfix for nvidia cards.

This weekend im going to try the 10k rpm raptors again and do some slight tweaks like use separate rails for each one and try the 4 pin connector instead of the serial. If they dont work in any configuration..well...i might just sell this f'in 750w ultra and get something higher. I NEED 10k rpm raptors in RAID. Unbeatable performance.

Still, im glad that it wasnt any of my other primary hardware.

Right here and there is one for SLI and one for non-sli
