All,

I'm new the forum and I sure hope someone out there can help me...I am waiting for ASUS tech support to call me back.

Here us the scenario:

My New System:

MB-------------------ASUS P4C800 DELUXE 875 DDR400 8X
CPU------------------Intel P4 2.4GHZ 533 FSB 512 478 RETAIL
Memory--------------PC3200 - 1GIG 400 MHZ(Samsung)
HardDisk-------------WD 120 GB Special Edition 1200JB
Floppy----------------3 1/2
CD/R/RW------------Sony CRX220A1
DVD-----------------Sony DDU1621
VideoCard-----------ATI All In Wonder 9700
PowerSupply---------Enermax 460 Watts
Operating System----Win XP PRO

My problem:

After successfully building my new computer, the system was continually stating that the BIOS was not yet installed after each reboot.

I used ASUS's AFUDOS program to install the BIOS per the instruction on page 4-1 through 4-2 of the MB manual. I used the current BIOS that came on the MB CD (P4C800.ROM).

The BIOS installed and completed as per the instructions but after rebooting my computer, all I get now is a black screen. The computer will NOT boot up or POST.

I tried resetting the RTC CMOS per the instruction on page 2-19 through 2-20 of the MB manual but this did not work either.

So I'm hosed at the present time... Does anyone have an idea as to how I can fix this annoying problem? I just got my computer built and I can't even use it!

Jim

Go into the bios and set the AGP to run at 1.7v or 1.8v.

See if that works. Try dropping an old video card into it too, just to test. There's a long standing bug w/ asus boards and the 9700pro in its various incarnations, but there are also numerous work arounds and fixes.

On my P4C800 my system would crash with AGP set at the default 1.5v. Setting it to the above solved all the problems.

I had exactly the same problem with an Athlon board, did the full set up then nothing on reboot. The only way i got it to Post to get to BIOS was repeatedly pressing the reset switch.
Try resetting CMOS again, thoroughly test all your connections again(especially RAM),

Guys,

Thanks for the ideas... John, the problem I am having is that I don't even get the opportunity to enter my BIOS. I have a black screen!

I am going to try putting another CMOS battery in to see if that is the problem. Then I will make the chages you are suggesting.

Thanks again,

Jim

Jim,
I'm really hoping the ROMBIOS chip is not faulty. If the BIOS was not reading and you tried flashing the chip and know your screen is black,
then the BIOS maybe didn't flash and the board needs to be replaced.
I think I'd be RMA the board and giving a detailed explanation of the problem.

Best regards,

All,

I RMA'd my board today and hope to have a replacement in about a week to 10 days.

Asus Tech Support indicated that the CrashFree BIOS 2 should have allowed me to reboot the computer and perform a smart auto-recovery procedure through the motherboard support CD. Since this did not occur, they want to take a look at my MB.

I'll let everyone know what the problem/solution is as soon as I know.

You might also want to check what is your Radeon revision number. The last 2 numbers that are printed on the card...xxxx-xxxxx-??
If the ?? is 30 or higher, then you will have no problems. If it's lower, check in the manual, it even says there that the card should be revision 30 or higher to work with this motherboard.

Yes, I did notice that too...unfortunatey my 9700 has 10 as the last two digits. Nevertheless, there must have been something else wrong because ASUS decided to send me a new MB. I am supposed to get it today.

Well, I received my replacement board, installed it, and voila, it worked as it should have. I made no changes. All I can figure is that the first MB must have come from the factory with some kind of a major defect.

ASUS did not provide any information regarding errors or what they found so I can not report whether or not they were able to "fix" the problem.

Asus is good that way, "NOT EXPLAINING & NOT RESPONDING TO PEOPLE!" I have a friend who got a responce 1yr later, but he had already upgraded his MOBO, how's that for responce time!

I have the exact same problem with the exact same board. I RMA'd it, got the board back, have the SAME problem again, I thought it was the CPU, bought a new one, SAME problem, tried a different graphics card, SAME problem, tried new memory SAME problem. Reccomendation, don't shop ASUS again.

I completely agree, I had the same problem, but it was never resolved. When the Asus tech support did not give me a response after 2 months, I solemly swore not to buy Asus again, unless they improve their products and service.
