How dissapointing, I wanted to order myself a 8800GT, so my girlfriend could put some nice wrapping paper on and put it under the Christmas tree. But unfortunately all the major stores are sold out and most won't expect any stock until early December. So I added (quite) a few back-in-stock email notifications and I hope to be able to buy one when they get back in stock, I'm keeping my thumbs crossed though.

Cheers,

I am in the UK, and I got an 8800GT for around 50/$100 on ebay.

What I don't like is the fact that on any 8800 the 'new' NVidia Control Panel does not support full screen TV out, and is generally buggy with using a regular TV. There are many threads and petitions about it.

If NVidia cards arenot going to fully support TV Out on these new 8800 and future cards, I will be damned if I pay $30 more to buy the TV out part of the card when I will not be able to use it! This, at least in part, because of the 'media aspect' of home PC's now, is going to push customers in the ATI route, who, by the way, managed a patch for the TV out within days of their equivalent cards! I don;t know about the U.S. but in the UK, over 80% of homes still have a regular TV!

If there were cards that sold out, that means the cards really were available. Does this still make it a paper launch? Also, I think it's a wonderful card, and it's almost too bad I got my 8800GTS for Christmas last year. Almost. This at least makes the 8800GTS far cheaper on ebay, so I can now pick up another one for SLI. It's great!

I thought there was supposed to be some huge number at launch?? Maybe it has something to do with this:
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2007/11/11/nvidia-...l-analysis

and this:
http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/34818/135/

I'm selling my comp with 8800gts + A64X2 + 2GB etc on eBay but I think i'll have to survive on my laptop until my crossfire 3870 + 790FX + phenom arrives... wont be the fastest PC in the world but at least it be cheap :P

Unfortunately (inevitabley) when a card like this emerges, with an un-precedented price/performance ratio, they're going to sell like hot-cakes.

If supply cant meet the demand, not only will they sell out, but the price will rise.

With any bit of luck, the pressure will ease by next week, when the new AMD cards (HD38xx) release.

Should be a good Winter for those looking for an upgrade.

Are you sure you don't have a HDTV or LCD TV and not your regular TV? Because I have seen so many threads and forums and petitions telling NVidia to get the old Control Panel back because the new one is terrible!

Glad i bought my 8800GT KOs last week,! I bought these to go in the Boreas build from CoolIt Systems. This will be my 4th test machine, but i had to see how well they performed,so i put them in the 3rd machine to try them out. They are decent cards, but a far cry from my two 8800 Ultras, and a little behind my two 8800GTX's,but as everyone keeps saying, for $289 the performance is worth it.They beat my 8800 640Mb GTS's so for the price, its no wonder thet sell out out so fast. ZipZoomFly had the $299.99 8800GT SSC for $399.Talk about ripping people off,!.Other stores like Mwave were only selling one to each customer, and other stores that had a date when they would have them back in stock will not have them by that date. nVidia did a really fantastic job with this card, lets hope they do the same with the new GTX & Ultra.

If I had known a card like this was being released three months ago I would not have built my brothers computer over the summer.

Can't change the past but the 8800GTS is good enough.

Supply and demand, the age old principle at work, can't really blame the retailers that just want to up their margins.

By Government policy, all analog TV programming will be phased out pretty soon. I think the target is 2009. Actually I'm not sure I follow. You're saying you can't plug your card into a regular TV? That doesn't make sense. What happens when you try.

If you notice more than a couple of frames difference i;ll be surprised, at least @ 12x10 or so.

Its a bit faster alright, but you might be better off waiting a bit, unless of course, you just cannot wait! At least see how the HD3870 performs.

Like a lot of people, I have no Full screen capability on TV allowing for small window on PC but full screen on TV. That option isn't even in the new control panel. Secondly, the picture is black and white because MNTSC is stuck in the signal option, greyed out and not changeable, thirdly, any saves I make in the Control Panel are lost on reboot, and whenever I muck around too much with it I get an error and 'Do you want to tell Microsoft about this' message.

As to UK going 'digital', for most that means getting a set-top box for their regular TV (around 60 million new electrical items being plugged in and having to be left on standby - so much for the environment!). So it won't change anything for me and many others that cannot use the new card/control panel with TV Out successfully. I heard the new ATI cards had a similar problem, and they released a patch that by all accounts got the ATI cards working perfectly. No joy with/from Nvidia however.

And if you need any proof Nvidia is struggling at the moment, is the bi-weekly updates it seems to be having at the moment!

In conclusion, from what I have read on the forums, the latest Nvidia drivers have problems and the new Control Panel foisted on customers without them asking is as buggy as hell!

I can attest to the above personally!
