Thanks for locking the thread again lol i just wanted to say:

Give Sander a break is everyone saying that they have never downloaded an mp3 from a p2p network. Or gone to a friends house and pulled off a few of his or hers mp3s? Or downloaded an mp3 off MSN? I have and will carry on.

I dont see why everyone is so f**ked off its not that much of a big deal. Also what about games from old consoles you can download them really easily as they are only a few meg is it wrong to play these on ur PC for free well i dont think so. I wont play 40+ for a rare game when i can download it for free.

Congratulations. It's that kind of thinking that perpetuates piracy and as a result, continues to screw over the legitimate consumer.

legitimate consumers are screwed all the time PS3 sells for over 400 :O well they did, games were around 45. PLease tell me the price of the PS3 in the US and the games price? EA brings alot of games out a year are any of they working 100% no they always need a patch which 9/10 fcks the game up even more then we have to wait for another patch.

When i got BF2 i was like omg how cool is this then i find out how bad the code is. head shot some1 3 times with a sniper rifle, oh they are not dead, point blank shotgun in the face on and they knife you please tell my why 30+ for a game that has never worked is not screwing every1 who buys it?

Are you playing devils advocate? :)

If you won't pay 40 for a game, then just go without it. The fact that you are not willing to pay the price for the game doesn't give you the right to get it for free. Same goes for music and anything else. Whether it is a tangible commodity or not, objecting to the price of the item is not a permission slip to steal it.

This isn't some moral stand or ethical question. If it were a question of ethics then you just wouldn't buy it and would let the company concerned know why you haven't bought it.

All i am trying to say is that every has in one way or another copied somthing. So why make much a big deal out of it? You can say its not the right thing to do, but right thing is only right from a persons view.

Also since alot of people haev a problem with the price is it wrong to buy a game with 4 people and each pay 10 each? And all haev teh game installed on your PC, and yes this wouldnt work with online games as such but is it wrong to do?

That's a cloudier issue and to be honest i'm not sure. I would have to say that it is still wrong as you have only purchased one copy of the game and are getting four. There's no way to get it running on all four PCs without circumventing the copy protection which means you have already broken the EULA.

Also, no matter how many of you put money in, only one of you has bought the game and entered into an agreement with the publisher which means you would have one legal copy and three illegal pirate copies.

Unless shared ownership (volume license?) is agreed in advance with the publisher, that's the way I see it.

Holy Christ.

You miss the entire point of that debate over his article. The entire thing was pretty much about breaking the FUP which SANDER himself came up with. And how he "lied" to his readers just to get a rouse out of everyone to see what their reactions would be. Not about piracy as a whole. I dont give twos**ts about that. People are going to do it to keep screwing over the legitimate people such as myself anyway. Theres really no stopping it.

And quite frankly, I dont like the tone of your subject heading. Who the hell are you to tell others what to do? I say that you need to STFU.

FYI, Im in a VERY bad mood.

Ill break it down for you. You ask about downloading old games for old consoles and if it is wrong to play those on your PC for free. The answer is YES. Yes it is. Because if you look closely when you download those ROMs, it clearly states that you do not have the right to download them UNLESS you currently still own (in your possession) the game for the console in which you are downloading. Then it is right.

If you refuse to pay 40+ for a game, then dont be buying games or downloading them. Doing such makes you a pirate and a a law breaker. How would you like it if you were a game designer and you put your product on the market and instead of people buying the game which lines your pockets with money, they go out and download the game online and you get zero money for it? That doesnt make you feel to good and it does not give you any source of income. So basically, you'd be living in a box out on the street.

Try thinking outside the box instead of the inside of the box.

Ok fine title changed all i was getting at was give him a break which most are not they just wana burn him at the stake lol.

Well since most retro games are not for sale the only options are to download the roms or go on eBay and pay alot of cash for it (if its a rare game) suchas paper mario a really fun game but i wont pay 60 for it.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/N64-PAPER-MARIO-BOXED-WITH-MANUAL-PAPER-...dZViewItem

Non of the paper mario game designers will get any money from the above so why shouldn't i download it?

Uhh...its against the law...

So you are openly admitting you are a pirate and refuse to pay for ANY game and WILL download it instead?

>> The censure of any further discussion over DRM or other digital rights policies
{This was sent as a Private Message to Vitaliy, but I found no way of seeing my own Sent messages, and OTOH I see this topic, so I repost my PM here}

I discover that Vitaliy (Administrator) performed sort of an "ethnic cleansing" of the topic, and that he accordingly edited at 20:24 GMT his post http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/69523/?o=80#519484 of today Sun 18 Nov 2007 00:37 GMT:
EDIT: I'm locking this thread after deleting a handful of post after this one. If you'd like to discuss DRM or other digital rights policies please start a new thread in appropriate forum. Please refrain from attacking other forum members or staff.

This is just to keep in records that HWA is preventing any further discussion over any subject around copyrights and DRM (how would someone a little sensed, post in a forum where his posts can be deleted, no matter how weighted, polite, careful, appropriate, on topic? and this, in facts without any warning or way to defend himself?) From now on, only hordes of uncivilized brutes will "discuss" - which is surely what HWA actually wanted.

Vitaliy (and Sander) couldn't ignore (even without my recall) that the efficient way of stopping that thread was the one I posted to Sander:
Better would be (as I repeatedly suggested above) to admit that you were wrong stealing the software, which by cooling the atmosphere would allow you to bring the forum back with calm and objective minds to the valuable and very important issue you wisely brought in your article.

and that OTOH:
closing a topic while it's hot is just calling for troubles!

So if they so chose, it is that, together with Sander, Vitaliy in facts were willing from the start to generate aggressions and hostile traffic, and to forbid in facts any civilized discussion over and DRM. I regret it.

So the games are for sale (on ebay). The issue for you here isn't that the games aren't on sale, you have just pointed out to us that they are. The issue is that you aren't willing to pay the cash to get them. You want them for free or you want to specify the price you pay for them. The world doesn't work like that, you being unwilling to pay the price to get what you want does not make it OK to steal it.

I'd quite fancy an 8800GTX but i'm not willing to pay 350 for a graphics card. Guess I can just walk into PC World and take one then?

I am just putting across an argument thats all I am not saying I have done this or that ect. for the record i cannot download anything from torrents as i am at uni (ports are blocked even for WoW) nor can i be bothered to do so takes too long and i enjoy having the game and looking through the manual.

I suppose I am playing the devils advocate as I haven't done what I have suggested. I agree piracy is wrong but everyone has done it in one way or another so why get so angry if someone talks about it openly?

(400th post woop :P )

Dude don't get so worked up.

When i said i have not done any of this or that, i was referring to the downloading of paper mario or any other game. When I said I will carry on I was referring obtaining music from friends that have brought CDs or being sent an mp3 over msn to hear a new band if they are good I will buy their album.
