Ok here are some benchmarks on the new 45nm Wolfdale E8400.

Here is how they compared them to benchmark the architecture clock for clock:

all three processor where set to dual core @ 2.4ghz

stock Wolfdale E8400 = 3ghz 1333fsb (333fsb x 9) ---> down clocked to 2.4ghz 1066fsb (266fsb x 9)

stock C2D E6600 = 2.4ghz 1066fsb (266fsb x 9)

stock Phenom 9700 = 2.4ghz quad core ---> two cores disabled

benchmark review = http://www.pcgameshardware.de/?article_id=622892 (it is in German)

benchmark graphs of results = http://www.pcgameshardware.de/?menu=browser&article_id=622..._id=741790

so from the graphs... it looks like:

Wolfdale = 10~15% faster than C2D @ same clock speed
Wolfdale = 16~26% faster than Phenom @ same clock speed
C2D = 9~15% faster than Phenom @ same clock speed

anyone here can speak German and report back on about the review ?

So it's 26% faster than Phenom.. hmm considering Phenom wasn't a complete revamp from AM2, so Phenom does a fairly good job as well... :|

Hmmm..

Hey Mark :D

Yes, I'm still using 3000+. But I don't play games anymore. Although I'll soon have 3500+, I purchased second hand.

G.G. they are just talking about what you already see in the graphs. it seems that they
had an article about crysis performance on the phenom processor but had to pull it back.
they will also test the e8400 in comparison with the e6850. which will be interresing.

they also pointed out that the vcore for the wolfdale is significantly lower.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

Don't play games anymore?!? Why?

How much did you get that 3500+ for? I got my x2 for $55!

BTW Did anyone notice that Bobby Phillips resigned on the 14th, but his las login was the 27th? ;)

Someone misses HWA!

It's not what you think. Bobby Phillips acctually logged in on the 27th just to send me a good luck message as the new moderator.

not really Supreet..... (at least with the first set of batches)

Phenom had 18 months to catch up or beat C2D.... but unfortunately it is 9~15% slower... maybe with some revision (i.e. newer stepping or newer batches) it can shrink that gap to C2D......

But being 16~26% slower to Penryn (Wolfdale - dual core) is a LOT to make up if it wants to be equal.

Down the road.... Nehalem and Bulldozer will be in its own catagory/league......

As for you saying that Phenom is not a revamp of AM2..... well ... some of your buddies says otherwise... they tout that Phenom is a complete from the ground up design over the K8 (A64/A64 X2) .... :/

Not to mention superior overclocking potential? Essentially, that percentage will only grow even bigger.

Only Crysis benchmarks? Games aren't ever a processor's strong suit. They're number crunchers (words that is, not floating decimals) by nature....

The way I see it, benchmarks for games in comparing processors should be how long it takes to compile a map, not frame rates. Frame rates are 90%+ dependant on the graphic card(s) while compiling is 99%+ dependant on the CPU. That benchmark proves something but not much.

Hey Ford,

so if there is this much difference in this game bench...... do you think the margin would get wider or lesser if the benches included apps that were specific to cpu?

Excuses aside, in the end Wolfdale is about 26% faster than Phenom, and yes I only (used to) play games, I don't care about any other benchmarks.

Mark! :), I purchased 3500+ for $25, I am expecting the courier to arrive at my place in about couple of days more. Although I am happy with 3000+, I upgraded it just for the sake of "change" :D

It depends on what kind of instructions the game mostly uses. It could go either way.
