Hey guys, I was looking for ddr ram the other day and was suprised at how much more expensive it is for it. I could get 2 gigs of DDR2 for the price of 1 gig DDR!!! I was all about upgrading my ram, but I decided I don't want to spend $50 towards an obsolete socket.

So....

I was wondering, do any of you have any spare ddr just laying around that you have been meaning to get rid of? I know most of you have a backup computer, so don't feel I'm asking for parts out of them.

And also, if this isn't allowed, just delete it please, mods. :)

And if you guys feel like calling me cheap and other names, go right ahead! ;)

Thanks

I've been looking for cheap DDR too, and while searching have been very surprised to find that slower PC2100 DDR often sells for all practical purposes at the same price as PC3200 DDR...at least for 512MB or 1GB sticks.

Really disappointing, to say the least.

edit to add-oh yeah...I also looked at 'refurbished' RAM sources and even they were incredible...often the price for a used stick was higher than an easily found retail price for the same stick, and the shipping price was often higher, too.

Not a very good incentive for people to improve their older computers and thus contribute less to landfills.

Nope, built a second machine [HTPC] with my A64 & DDR :)

It is quite expensive to get DDR these days

Check here though:

Based in Ireland and good prices on DDR. I get all my RAM from there, great service.

>> Re: DDR RAM

The best I'm still finding 1gb DDR is about US$50 (regardless of speed) and just yesterday I saw 1gb DDR2 (644MHz) selling for US$12. That's 1/4 the cost of DDR!!!

I guess I'll just have to be happy with 1gb DDR on the XP Home system for now. I've got 3gb on the XP Pro system, and I already know taking it down to 2gb definitely impacts performance, so no divvying-up the RAM.

But, then again, I also just saw a socket 939 4200+ X2 CPU selling for $130 when just a month or so ago I saw it for $60. I knew I should have bought it back then, but back then I couldn't stretch my home computer "super-happy-playtime" budget that far.
