I'm upgrading my computer to a AMD Athlon 64x2 3800+, 8800GTS 512mb, 2gb DDR2 RAM. Is my old PSU good enough to handle this?
I'm a noob with computers so i'm not sure on what to write about the PSU so i'll just list everything it has.

ATX 500W Power Supply.
AC Input: 240V 50Hz 4a
DC Output: +3.3v +5v +12v -12v -5v +5Vsb COM P-ON PG
20A 34A 20A 1.0A 0.6A 1.8A BLK GRY GRN

On the front of the PSU it has written this:
AC240V/50hz

I hope someone can answer, once again sorry for being noob lol.

Mark,
I'm not sure about how to read your specification, but if it indicates a single rail +12V @ 20A, you should be OK, but check out any one of the free online PSU calculators by searching on the terms "PSU"+"Calculator" into your favorite search engine.

Then again, one of the most important factors is the actual quality of the unit. What brand is your power supply? I would not trust a 8800GTS to a POS power supply.

Well it says on the side that it's a ATX and below it has TUV Product Service.

That doesn't sound like a quality brand to me. Although it might still work but you are better off with a quality brand power supply. DublinGunner has a sticky under Latest Topics about choosing a quality power supply.

Personally I'd try it and see if works, if it doesn't then you will have to buy a new PSU.

So if it works stick with it but put money towards a better quality one, and if it doesn't, just get a new one all together? o.o

I've gone on a RANT about PSUs in several threads here and elsewhere in the past, so shant do so again, BUT your entire system integrity relies on the PSU so you shouldn't cut corners on it. Search the threads on PSU and you'll get the picture.

I think the 8800GTS 512mb has a minimum requirement of 26A on the +12V that for the entire system.

I'm in full agreement with Gerritt on the topic of PSUs.

Cheap PSUs endanger your entire system even if one does "work" for awhile. A catastrophic PSU failure can occur without warning at any time and can permanently take out the mobo, CPU, drives, adapters, etc. in one stroke.

It isn't worth risking everything in your system to save a few coins on a PSU.

Also, PSUs that "come with" some computer cases are ticking time-bombs as far as the electronics goes.
