Well you have an awsome rig. I don't know why you keep spending money on it. It is a bad habbit so control yourself. You can already play Crysis at high or very high settings smoothly so what's the poin of upgrading huh? 8) Cconsider your girlfriend. You better start saving some cash, Valentine's Day is coming. ;)

I'm in a wreck over $40 worth of fans that are too loud. My problems are mostly the result of OCD (fans matching, cords hidden, colors matching, etc.).

Heh. I have the same problem. Here I am all ready for the Yorksfield CPU that is due out soon. Going for the Q9450 with a DFI Lanparty LT x38. I really need to stop after that. The same FedEx guy comes to my house every time. Hes going to start wondering if I pedal drugs. Lol

No, you just need to play games at low settings. Whenever I turn the eye candy up, I am dissatisfied with the frame rates. That's why I play almost every game with default or lower settings even on my 8800 GT. I know when it's time to upgrade when even the lowest of settings gets jerky (about every two years it seems). There's no point in having the best because a year from now, it's worth less than half of what you originally paid for. Fiscally, that game will always drive you into the ground.

See, I seemed to be wasting my money on games. After a while, it kinda fixed itself, because I ended up buying a couple of games that ended up being poorer than p**s. (Deus Ex - Invisible War, Shattered Union, Genesis Rising, to name a few) These days, I'm a bit more cautious about the games I buy.

As for the PC itself, I only spend money on cosmetics, these days, with actual major hardware upgrades every 2-3 years, unless I need a bit of RAM or more hard drive space.

Yeah, it's a bit of an issue, though, if you're lying to and hiding from your girlfriend. However, I think if you can afford it, and still live comfortably (pay your bills, provide food and shelter, etc) then you really shouldn't have to hide anything at all. As long as you're taking care of your priorities, then all should be well, you know?

I made a thread last year, about also how much time my pc consumes me!

Im pretty lucky as I am a bit of a saver when it comes to cash :) I generally update my PC once every 2 to 3 years.... normally about the time that i start to get unplayable frames on medium settings :) Over here in South Africa, prices are marked up by about 150% as compared to the US >:o so it is rediculous to upgrade often given the benefit to cost ratio here. We also dont get step-up programs or mail in rebates etc.... >:o For example, a 8800GTX here will still cost you R6000 which is roughly US$857 >:o Talk about being ripped off in South Africa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to have the same problem. Until I divorced my boring, overbearing and extremely jealous wife and found a woman who loves $&X more than I do. Now I don't have time to play games or upgrade my PC. All my free time is spent in bed, or the shower, or the hot tub, or a hotel in a resort area, etc.

The answer to your problem is simple, find something more exciting.

Don't worry dude. PCs != Drugs. You're just having a major irresistible hobby, and a bit of compulsion, that all. ;) Drugs, alcohol, smoking, gambling, prostitution (utilizing), etc, are lot worse habits. Building PC is nothing more than a learning and entertaining experience.

On the other hand, if that girl is one that you care and love, you should spend more time for her. Computer parts you can order, any time! Your love one, however, doesn't come along as easily.

Tired of the same Fedex guy? Then use UPS or other services. ;) BTW, why is delivery jobs predominantly male. Wouldn't it be nice to have hot chicks deliver parts to my front door? LOL ;) I am just dreaming...

You have an addiction.
If you are hiding your transactions, it's the same as crack, or gambling or alcohol.

I've been clean for 4 months. Oh I've been tempted by newegg, Intel, AMD, ATI, and others, but have remained clean...Except for the $2000 I've spent on personal software.....

PS If you don't want to quit your addiction, but hide it, just wait 2-4 months from release and the cost of your addiction goes down by half.

I know exactly how you feel.

But my wife can't complain, she has a Scrapping/card making hobby that she really enjoys. So we both spend extra cash.

But I'm confident I spend more then she does, but I make more too ;)
Now before anyone says anything, I buy her stuff too. (just spent $250 on her last week)
And I pay for all the PCs an 90% of electronics in the house. anyway...

I love opening a new box an checking out new stuff that I get, even if its not for me. I just built a PC for someone. Love building PCs, upgrading, etc... Working with hardware is my addiction. (PCs, networking equipment, etc..)

So Id say your not alone persay, but you do need to be honest with your girlfriend. Otherwise it will just cause problems in the long run. They always find out.
