Hi all. Happy new year......

In response to AJ's post: i agree that advertising in here is a load of 'tish'
I called Elonex parts and was quoted a couple hundred quid and then found out that there ISN'T a fix so i would have basically given money away and not had a fix when i could've just bought a new machine(!)

If there was a guaranteed fix then i might consider it, but as i'd end up 'a little more vexed' with the same machine i'm not up for that.

My questions to Elonex Parts are:
1) Do you know what the problem is?
2) Can you guarantee the fix?

.......the wait begins...

hi,i have the same problem...i will be spliting mine in a day or so.i will compile a ''how to split'' the exenita..
ive striped/fixed many laptops over the years.i know the elonex it a bugger to work on,but ill get it done...luckaly ive 2 other fully working exenita's so ill be using one for parts till i find the faulty component, inverters will be the first to change.....
i had found that messing round with different memorys actully made it more stable, but after a while it was back to flashing again,so not really a ''fix''.
i will not be beaten.....ill get there in the end....watch this space........

Is the hard drive in the screen assembly ??
I have a clunking drive and need to replace it - any news on the stripdown procedure - not a easy one to work on.

thanks

The problem with the exentia pc having intermitant display is that the mains smoothing capacitor in the power supply which is mounted behind the sub-woofer is faulty. It is a 450 volt 150uf cap. it smooths the rectified voltage. I have fixed many of them with this fault and it was always the same component and not the LCD inverter. Please let me know the results if any of you attempt to repair it. I own an IT Hardware repair service center, but I'm all the way in South Afrca.

Hi, Guys,

I reckon we only find these blogs when we have a problem!
My EL-EX suffered the intermittant screen for many months and I could'nt find a solution - so we eventually bought a new computer, so THEN I had the time and opportunity to take it apart in the workshop -(garden shed!) - and did nothing more than give it a good clean on the principle that the dust was preventing the air circulating so the cooling fan was not being allowed to do it's job properly.

That was about four weeks ago and everything's worked fine since then - right up until about twenty minuted ago when it blew a fuse! :X

Does anyone know where the fuses are on this machine?

Peter

A friend of ours has an Exentia with exactly the same issue ie. screen goes black for a few seconds, wakes up when the mouse/keyboard is moved and continues to go off. I have drawn the short straw given the fact I work in I.T.... oh the crosses us geeks have to bare!!
Anyway the problem appears to compounded when the PC has been on for a while and given the compact nature of the beast and the fact that everything is built into the screen I thought the problem could be with the video card and or screen inverter overheating. I can see through the vents that there is a substantial amount of dust build up which is probably not helping the already limited ventilation. Just take the back off, give it a clean and possiblly swap the inverters over... or at least that was the plan. Having spent 3 hours undoing every available screw and unclipping all obvious plastic tags on the casing I was still no closer to the major components in the back of screen. The biggest problem seems to be the screen stand which houses the external port connections, the speaker sub woofer and a substantial counter weight!!
To get to the back of the screen it appears I first need to remove the screen stand however I could not detach the screen stand because there are cables running up through the middle of it from the various external ports.
Can anyone who has taken one of these to bits throw any light on how to get to the main components.

Hi

I have a .pdf with instructions how to take off the sub and psu to get to the wiring for the front boards. I haven't taken off the back casing for the monitor, though i will and give it a good vacuum, and i think it will help you as i can see all connections etc.

mine started blinking again (curse!!) and i've been changing the ram around, but alas, no joy(ish).

any help would be welcome :)
