Here's the near-term plan for the site:

- We'll review article submissions guidelines and procedures, to clear things up and encourage participation. Meanwhile, if you think you would like to write long-term (and believe it, it's harder than it looks) then please email articles @ hardwareanalysis.com

- We are going to be setting up a user-submitted user-maintained "news" section. Further details to be revealed when it's closer to launch, but the goal is to have something between DailyTech and Slashdot and perhaps remotely like Digg. There are a few of you that already occasionally post suitable headlines in our forums so you'll become official first "editors".

- We are working on original article content, including perhaps hiring more writers.

We still think the direction of the site should not be to have mass-reviews of everything under the sun. Instead, I'll give you a headline from today worth covering - "Nvidia Surprises With First Mobile CPU" - this has no physical impact on anyone today or even this month, but I still think it's interesting to read because it is about something upcoming, new and different.

Someone said that reviewing latest and greatest doesn't serve everyone's interests because most people can't afford those things anyway, and I agree. However, I don't see anything wrong with articles such as "Best bang for the buck PC build as of February 2008". In fact, any volunteers to research and write this on a regular, let's say, bi-monthly basis?'

Hey i have any idea i had, i think we should be allowed to post pictures in topics (no sigs or avatars) but limit it to say 800x600 and also allow for an option to not show pictures if you dont want too. I know a forum that has that option but that is also a phpbb3 board

Yes, I think its time that we allow users to post pictures as well, it is 2008 after all. I do think that 800x600 is a bit on the bigger side however, and I think 640x480 would be more reasonable for HWA's layout. I think with the help of a few assistant moderators, and myself, we could easily keep the forum clean of any pictures containing pornography, offensive material, etc. Also the idea to be able to disable pictures is a good one.

Oh also the ability to Center text (i.e. [center]). That's always usefull if anyone types up a forum based review or something related to that.

At first, I think it would be fine if all the pictures posted all defaulted to the center.

Make a gallery-type page for users to post pictures of their computers along with specs.

I have no idea how feasible of an idea this would be, but I think it would be cool if you had a dedicated area for game servers like CounterStrike: Source which would act as a sort of advertisement for it. You could show stats and whose playing in realtime or something of the like. I think that could bring new members in. Just an idea though.

That's cool. If there was something like that for CS:S, (I don't know for sure), but it should be easier to set up?

This all looks great, Vitaliy. Can't wait to see some of this stuff when it's finished. :) I could write a "Best bang for the buck PC build as of November 2005" based on my computer XD ...

There's always people posting "budget pc build?" type threads, so I'm sure somebody would be more than willing/able to do that.

Maximum PC has a contest they run once a month for pc modders.
Maybe HWA can have one of these type contest twice a year and get newegg, TigerDirect or other e-retailers to supply contest winners with a similar prizes for the winner to continue their mad modding hobby?

Good publicity for the site as well.

Just a long stretch, but I thought it might bring some good humor for a change. LOL!

The way I was planning on doing this is that you can attach any file(s) to your message and they will be listed on the bottom. Then you can click and download/view them.

Don't think we are going to allow to embed images in posts so they are shown when page loads. I think that's distracting. I realize there are legitimate reasons to have that done (posting 3dmark or cpu-x screenshots, etc) but most of the time it makes people post silly things.

The logistical difficulties in doing all this is that we need the disk space / bandwidth, and also because we want to virus-scan all attachments. None of these things are rocket science, but require some engineering which is why it hasn't been done yet.

A few people brought this up recently (you guys aren't conspiring, are you? :) - so my idea for this is to let people create a list of components they have and then attach some photos or screenshots. These "builds" would be attached to your profile so you can easily show off what you have.

The gallery would then be easy to build - you should be able to compare these builds side by side and easily click-through from each component to see pricing at Newegg or elsewhere.

That's the grand plan as far as this piece goes :)

Don't really need the latest multi-core CPU to research this and write an article - just need to know current marketplace, what's priced "right" and what performs "right".

I'm sure someone can step up for this. If not, I suppose we could make it a some kind of collaborative effort, with people voting or something..

We wanted to do some contests or giveaways, but the major problem with them is that about half of you guys are not in US so that brings some legal and logistical/cost difficulties.

In US things are easy (newegg gift certificates or shirts from our store), but internationally things get a bit hairy.

But we'll see what can be organized. Certainly the unofficial rule was that we'll give anything from our store to any writer whose article is published.
