All,

I'm having a RAM dilemma. I am currently running 2 sticks of 1Gb PC2 6200 and two sticks of 512mb PC2 6400 = 3gb total. I also have a pair of PC2 8500 = 2Gb. My question to the community is: Are three gigs of 6400 better than two gigs of 8500 (as of now I am not overclocking).

I'll gladly take any advice I can get. :)

Much thanks,
-AlanOne

If you're not overclocking, then it is identically the same (if the timings are the same of course). But if you plan to OC, the 8500 would predictably perform better. However, if you're running a ram intensive applications, the more ram, the better.

if you are running win xp the i would go for the 2gig of pc8500. only because c2d's can take
better advantage of higher bandwidth and 2 gig are plenty for xp.
if you use vista then i probably stick with the 3gig of pc6200/6400 because it will use every
byte of it.

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.

How about performance with video games at stock speeds?

Thanks again.

if you have a dedicated video card then the performance of your memory becomes
secondary because it is used as a swap file

You can either be part of the problem or be part of the solution.
