I have aToshiba Pro 4600 with Win98SE. I installed a USB device and it works but now the sound doesn't. It has an error code in the device manager the the ntkern.vxd and mmdevldr.vxd could not load the device. I have gone into safe mode and removed the usb device and also the sound card and reinstalled the sound card and drivers and that did not fix it. I have also tried reloading those files from a back up I made, and that did not help either. If anyone knows anything please help. The sound card is a Yamaha AC-XG.

Here is a site that explains how to fix the (ntkern.vxd)

http://www.webbworks.com/crstrode/ntkweb.htm

This is a sound driver (mmdevldr.vxd) It should be on 98 CD, not on your disk that came with the sound card, but if you can't find it try this site:

http://www.treiber-archiv.de

That's right it's a German site, just click Systemfile-Center, on the left of the page and then select the type of file you want (.vxd).

Don't worry the driver will still work!!

Good luck even with this driver people still have problems getting it to work!! Seams when you reboot the problems comes back, and going to Safe Mode will not help! But Sometimes replacing it works. Pray your a lucky one!!

Good luck!!!

Thanks guys for helping me. I ended up reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling everything, it probably needed it anyway. Just wanted to say thanks.
