I have just converted, rather still in the process, my PC into a HTPC. I have transfered all of the contents into a Silverstone LC17 HTPC case.

The only problem I have after fitting everything in is that in this case the power supply now sits at the bottom of the motherboard and due to cable routes because of Grapics Card etc can not reach certain power sockets on th M'Board.

This unfortunately means that I can not do 2 things

1) Reach the 24pin socket on the M'Board (have located 24pin extender which is on order)
2) Reach the CPU power 4 Pin socket on the M'Board

I have attempted to locate a 4 Pin extender but am having difficulty however I can locate a molex to 8 pin conector.

So my question is can I connect the molex conversion to 8 pin connector to the CPU power socket instead of the 4 pin??

here is the connector

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200202443666&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com.au%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37%26satitle%3D200202443666%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1

4 pin was previously used but M'Board can take an 8 pin.

Details
CPU - E6700
M'Board - GA-965P-DS3P
600W PSU

Just don't want to fry my board or CPU and was hoping to get some opinions / ways forward

This is my first time creating a thread - appreciate any help and ideas

I had a similar predicament as you with my server and I found the solution here:
http://www.performance-pcs.com/

Specifically, here is a 24-pin extension cable:

Here is the 12V ATX extension cable:

Here's the lot in case I misunderstood you:

I wouldnt recommend using a molex to 8-pin converter. The molex cables arent designed to output to the same requirements as the 8-pin connector, and could possibly cause instability.

I would recommend an extender like Ford suggested.
