I have an MSI KT6V that I've run with a Duron 750 Kb CPU for 4 years. Today I inserted an AMD Athlon XP 2500+. The computer boots up and runs fine - but Windows thinks it's still a Duron 750. I've tried to fix it by setting the FSB to 166 as the MB book says, but it still won't see the faster CPU. I've asked Windows to look for new equipment in the Control Panel/System screen, but it doesn't see the new CPU.

I have not upgraded the BIOS on the MB, since the documentation says the MB should handle this CPU without any problem. I'm running WIN XP, 1 gig of RAM. I've searched the AMD and MSI sites for help to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill

Try resetting the CMOS settings?
