I am trying to delete folders like windows sidebar, moviemaker, etc......but it keeps saying the programs are in use!(which is not...)

I've tried using del in cmd, tried unlocker, and everything else and i was unsuccessful.

Anyone have any insights/inputs?

Thanks.

I so do not recommend doing this but if you boot into MS-DOS from a floppy or CD, you can delete whatever you want pretty much without restraint. Beware, you can do critical damage to the OS which means you'll have to reinstall. It's best to remove Windows components strictly through Add/Remove Programs and clicking on Add/Remove Windows Components on the left.

How about when booting into safe mode?

edit to add-
Might also try looking at your startup programs and temporarily stopping any that might impact those files you can't delete. Simplifying what's going on might produce an environment in which Unlocker is more likely to work. Similarly, you might check your running services and see if anything there might be interfering with removals.

Unlocker, and deleting in safe mode both doesn't work.
