I have never owned or used a web cam. I have slow internet and even slower upload.

Im sure that i dont have the bandwidth to stream the video.I can just use vent (ventrilo) but my ping is about 2k with 16kbs dl. So i can hear people on vent , but i cut out if i say more than one sentence. Getting different internet is not an option atm.

Can i save video and just email it? Or does it have to be streamed?

What do i look for in a web cam?

How important is mp? Average i think is 1.3 but i see 4,8 ext.

What resolution should i look for?

Is logitech a good brand for a web cam, or are there better? Also is there software any good, as in user friendly?

At my local target store they have a 2 pack of web cams. I think it is the quick cam communicate stx and the quick cam for notebooks for $60 usd or so. As i need to get one for my home pc, and one for my sisters notebook.

Thanks again for your help guys.

I have the Logitech Pro 9000 with Carl Zeiss optics. I got that for the resolution purely
for vids and pics that I can send of to friends and family abroad. It has a lot of features
on it that I wanted - Right light technology, etc, and has some good software that my
wee girl can use as well. One thing I didn't expect tho, was the high res doesn't work
for vid calls. It's 640x480 only when doing vid calls. I've had 3 cams in the past, and this
one's the newest out so it's something that's maybe not gonna change for a while yet.

If you just want a cam for purely vid calls, then don't fork out on a lot of cash for a fancy
fandangled cam due to the resolution. The vids/pics are stored in a folder, and can
be attached to email to send. All the cams i've had in the past have been from logitech.
They are quite reliable for me.

Thanks for the good info.

At 640x480 how many mb does it use per minute. I am curious so that i can estimate how long it will take to send a video file or receive one.

I assume that it would be 300-400mb per hour, which would be 6mb per minute. But i may be way off on my guess.

If you still don't sure which web camera should you buy I would recommend you to visit TestFreaks, choose web cameras category and sort models by score:
http://www.testfreaks.com/webcameras/?sort=score
Such way you'll see which web cameras have the best ratings, based on expert and user reviews from all over the world.
I think this is the most objective way to choose the best one
