Here is my problem at hand I have an intel Q6600 2.40 quad core
That has an FSB of 1066 But I have two DDR3 1333mhz 2gb Patriot
sticks of ram I want to use on my Intel DX38BT mobo after talking to intel
for about an hour on the phoneI found that my mobo supports 1.5 v
Ram and they stated that my ram is1.7v as well as my fsb on my processor
has to match the ram they did state it is possible to do but won't
tell me how due to voiding warranty because of overclocking .....can someone please tell me?
how can I make this work???

Im not familiar with that motherboard but cant you set the cpu fsb to memory fsb to unlinked in the bios and set the cpu to 1066 and the memory fsb to 1333. or cant you change the cpu:fsb ratio in the bios. by the way which version of the memory is it, is it the patriot viper series?. if the memory runs on 1.7v you can manually set the ddr voltage to 1.7v yourself. anyway if you can unlink the cpu to memory ratio and set your fsb's yourself,
default settings are for the q6600 is 1066mhz and set the ram to 1333mhz, that wont be overclocking and it shouldnt void your warranty. Anyway the mobo should automatically take care of the fsb's and voltages.

YES it is the VIPER series with the fins I can change processor settings voltage clock speed ECT.
I can change ram settings in the bios as well
and the FSB of the pc I'm not sure what to change to make this work

As far as I know I can change anything
except the multiplier it is stuck at 8 maybe 9

The processor has an FSB of 1066 due to the FSB of the Q6600 the memory should be reporting 1333 but it is reporting 1066 as well I'm not scared to overclock I built this machine for that purpose so that I could overclock I have air setup a heavy steel case w/ a 250mm i think it could be bigger fan built Into it on the side of the case can be purchased through Newegg as that is where I bought mine Its an ANTEC el diablo and s ZAlman fan for cooling the processor but I cannot seem to get windows installed using standard settings
I keep getting the BSOD during installing devices screen

Well i aint exactly sure about your bios but does it have a linked unlinked option like in this image.
http://www.pctechnology.gr/mod/Hemi/Reviews/striker/FSB_&_MEMORY_CONFIG.JPG
since your Q6600 is at 1066 and so is your ram well then you have a 1:1 fsb ratio.
changing it to say 2:1 would make your cpu 1066 and your ram 533, im not sure if it works the other way around for example 4:5, as in 1066:1333. i see that mobo supports ddr3 and it should, didnt the intel people tell you anything useful, bios setting etc..?
otherwise youll have to overclock and 1333 or 3ghz out of a core 2 quad q6600 is easy to get.

Hmm, well there could a problem if youre getting a bsod using the standard settings, Forget about overclocking until this problem is fixed, you might need to raise the voltage of the ram a little to at least it manufacturer specified voltage of 1.7volts.

please if it is easy to get 3 ghz of of the q6600
tell me how to do so. What settings do I need
to change as for the unlink option
I'm not sure I will try to do that when I get
home
I think I have a 5:4 ratio as you put it
q6600 fsb 1066
patriot ddr3 ram 1333
so I think that I am at a 5:4 ratio
NO intel told me to get 1066 ram to match
the fsb of the Q6600 or get a new mobo
that supports 1.7v ram and a processor
that is 1333 fsb.

Thank you for your help

If you have the same bios layout of this intel dx38bt mobo in this image well you can just set the memory in the system memory speed tab to 1333mhz and raise the voltage to the default of 1.7v,
http://www.xbitlabs.com/misc/picture/?src=/images/mainboards/intel-dx38bt/main-b.jpg&1=1
if you change the memory fsb to 1333mhz and find that all the mobo's fsb's change just set them all manually,
Also check out this really in depth review of the intel dx38bt motherboard on x-bit labs, it covers the bios and even overclocking.

If your mobo is the same as the one in the review try chainging the ram voltage, this can be found under the performance tab and select memory override to bring you to the memory configuration window where you can change the memory voltage in the memory voltage tab. try its default of 1.7v, check what its at now before you change it, make sure you change only the system memory speed to 1333mhz and up the voltage. this should make the ram perform as it was intended. the cpu should be fine too as it is running at default settings, so windows should be ok.

I tried that before but all I got was a system that would
not boot into bios no display nothing
and so I set the bios to recovery mode
but I will try it again when I get home shortly

You could raise you ram voltage a little bit higher than 1.7v, or have you tried a bios update, it worked for me, it made the system more stable.

no I have not updated the bios yet
it is still how I got it
I'm not sure what option to choose
there are 4 options and I really don't want to
mess anything up as I have heard a bad bios
update can leave your system in shambles
unoperatable

What update path should I go with if you
think that will get this thing working right

It seems there is only one bios download availablr to download and thats probably the one you have, the one on the intel site looks like the initial one, well if i was going to flash the bios i would use a bootable floppy with the bios utility on it and the bios, but dont update the bios sonce theres no newer version available and it can be tricky, i cant see why the default settings for the ram wouldnt work as you said you already see the memory fsb to 1333 and its voltage to 1.7v from the bios, but you could try changing the memory timings to a relaxed mode for now anyway, something like 5-5-5-18 would be fine

Well, everyones hardware is different, ive never worked with ddr3 or an intel x38 chipset but the main thing is "trial and error". it took me a while to get my machine stable @3ghz, what you need to do is search for a topic that involves overclocking using your mobo and cpu, or start a new post with your system specs, ill help in whatever way i can.
bottom line is though you shouldnt overclock until you can get the system stable so that you can install an os such as Xp or vista so you can monitor things like temps and voltages.
there are a few overc**king guides on this site and a lot about overclocking the Q6600, mine runs at 3ghz stable, but id like 3.5ghz,
check out the forums for overclocking,

OK i am home now and i have updated the bios to the most recent version as i was
using an older firmware

IS it true that the bus of the system
and the bus of the ram have to match?

if it is then i have a problem because the system bus is reported as 1066mhz
and the ram is also reported at 1066mhz

ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME!

OK with all settings at the way they were
in bios I have successfully installed vista
with no problems
AND that my friends makes me believe 2
things intel is full of s**t and that what I am
experiencing is a driver issue at least that is
what I am assuming that there is a major
issue with the driver not being found for
something in the system because vista is
extremely new compared to xp home Sp1
I think its all a big gimmick
but I am doing one better I am now slipstreaming
xp home with drivers and updates so hopefully
that will solve my issues and I can install xp
I hate vista .

Any thoughts on this??????

Great to hear you got vista installed without any problems, As for the hardware issue where there is no driver available, well thats not really a vista problem, do you have any hardware installed other than the integrated hardware on the mobo, if the sound works, display works, lan ethernet works, hdd's work, cd/dvd drives work well it must some additional hardware you have installed that is not compatible with vista. Go to "control panel" go to system and then device manager and locate any hardware that has an exclamation mark ! before it indicating a problem, right click on it and assuming your are connected to the internet on that machine right click on the problem hardware and select update driver, vista will search online for an appropriate driver, believe me it works cause i was using an old tv card and vista driver update made it work, it took a while but it worked.
also run updates and/or install vista service pack one.
Vista has come a long way since its initial release.

no vista and everything in the pc work
great I am refering to windows xp
and the bsod I keep getting trying to install
it on my pc I just installed vista on.

I want windows xp on that system not
vista so now I am slipstreaming service
Packs and drivers to the xp cd image
I will then burn the disk and see what
happens i will let you know if it worked

I think do maybe crashing due to the sata
devices or the high end ati PCI-express 2.0
16x video card or it may just be the mobo
not sure yet

I doubt it would be those things that would cause the blue screen, if you take note of the error code it gives you and google it. My 9800GX2 in my other machine runs fine in xp setup, the only reason the video card would cause a problem is if it was under a load which, it wouldnt be in the xp setup. Sata was designed on xp so i dont think so, it depends on what version of xp you are installing, is it xp with service pack 1 or normal xp, you'd need sp1 anyway but it would make no difference, also if the install disc is damaged it can give problems or if its a pirate version. vista is more stable for installing. I left Xp behind and i never use it.
